BMW R&D Boss - "...very hard to replace the batteries..."

I'll remain skeptical (but oddly optimistic) that BMW will offer an upgraded battery pack for the i3 that they will make available. I think an aftermarket pack is more likely. BMW is in the business of selling new vehicles (or re-selling a recent model year vehicle coming off a lease). Selling...

Who knew about the folding wing mirrors?

I had a 2-hour tutorial from one of the geniuses at Schomp in Denver on vehicle pickup. Makes a huge difference, especially for people who have not done a lot of research

    Change time to reflect summertime

I've not found this "feature" on mine here in the US. Had to adjust manually. Annoying, but doesn't take much time.

cost difference in home outlet and charging station

The big variable is how much you are going to drive. If you only drive 15-20 miles a day, then you are never doing a full charge, just the portion of the battery charge that you've used. The battery capacity of the i3 is 18.8 kWh. Since there is some charging overhead, you can probably assume...

    Lease new or buy used?

I'm not a fan of leasing simply because of the mileage restrictions put on the car. You have to watch what you drive, and its pretty expensive to exceed the miles. If you end up getting a lease with more miles, then any miles not used are effectively wasted. I've done some analysis over the...

LET'S BUILD THE CALIFORNIA WEST COAST ELECTRIC HIGHWAY

Reminds me of the old saying - "In the US, they think 200 years is a long time. In the UK, they think 200 miles is a long distance."

    Custom Car Pricing

Look at the FB group, there are a number of iGeniuses in that group including one guy on the East Coast who has arranged to sell cars out of state.

Home Charger - Get it from BMW or ?

Any EVSE can charge your car, there is nothing special in the BMW-branded charger. That being said, there are feature differences across the various chargers (which are all add-on's to the basic job of charging). You can get fancy displays, wi-fi connectivity, delayed charging features, etc...

    Range Extender Error Message

The REx is programmed to run periodically to ensure its always working. If you haven't run it in awhile (maybe 6 weeks?), then it will try to run an auto-cycle for a few minutes. In your case, however, it couldn't run the auto-cycle because the SOC was too high. Not sure if it just skips the...

US i3 Rex dangerous when climbing hills

Seen in other locations that the guy from CodeMyCar is willing and able to code virtually anything on the i3, regardless of nav system, etc. Seen some good references to him. Same price as DVDInMotion, but you can get more done. Seems like a good option for those who don't want to master...

    Rear Bumper Sill Reccomendations

Yes, I have the complete set (front, rear, luggage compartment). The front and rear are each a single piece. I think I read somewhere that they are not yet available in RHD for the UK, though the company is working on them. I'll try to dig up a couple of pictures. They do fit great.

    Anticipated driving tips

I think you can turn this on and off by going to vehicle settings/eDrive/Eco Pro Driving Tips in iDrive. If I recall, there is a selection there where you indicate whether you want the tips displayed or not.

    alarm

Dog movement inside the car will trigger the alarm. Has happened to me a couple of times. I think I read somewhere that you can disable the interior alarm when you lock the doors, but I can't come up with the reference right now.

    Has regen been reduced

I agree, I don't think its that hard to find the "coast" point, and once you've felt it, its pretty easy to find again. It may also help to watch the consumption gauge in the control display, as you hit coast when the white bar is right in the middle. Watching the display and subtly moving...

    Battery Buffers

There is a lot more to the equation than just "18.8 usable out of 22". The extra capacity helps with keeping discharge rates high as the battery depletes (think of a tape recorder slowing down as the batteries run out - not a desirable characteristic in an automotive battery), helps balance out...
