    Experiences on long trips ?

Absolutely get it. I've had mine (same age) for 3.5 years now, and I still get 100-135miles winter to summer range from it, plus another 70-100 on the Rex. That's at more than 85,000 on the clock. My longest regular journey without recharge is 145 miles, including using the Rex. I have done...

My Black Beauty, i3 94Ahr Rex

Alohart;- I had been assuming the BMS buffers which lock away 15% of the battery (assumed 7.5% at top and bottom) was a factor. The figures seemed too coincidental otherwise. The battery was at 100% as reported by the car. I'm more than happy with the battery health, and not particularly worried...

Rex Works, tested several times by BMW (maintenance mode and driving), but...

You don't need a scanner to do that, as I'm sure any number of YouTube videos will show you. If your battery is 75% or less then you can go through a menu choice and force the HSOC option to start the Rex. At the last press before you enable that option, press and hold one of your eight...

If your rear lights are LED already, then you should be able to swap front lamps over without any problems whatsoever. It was a straight swap for me, without any flasher problems. Headlamps too, and two out of three front lamps accessed behind a cover in the front wheel wells.

    SoH/Stated range trends?

The battery kappa max figure, via hidden menus, sounds like it does a similar function. On the i3 it really only is a 'guide' though, useful to spot trends perhaps but not absolutes. On mine it varies, again seasonally, from 27.2 to around 28.

    SoH/Stated range trends?

Alohart/eNate, Thanks for that info and the explanations. Seems to show my car is in pretty good shape battery wise. In the 3.5 years I've had it I've not seen any appreciable drop in range, apart from the usual seasonal variations. For me that means 100-130 miles and 60 to 100 on the rex. Not...

    SoH/Stated range trends?

After a year or so of only charging to 90% or so, and after all the articles/opinions I've read, I recently started charging to 100% each time again. BMW (in my 94Ahr rex at least) only let you use around 85% of the battery capacity anyway, see the picture for SOC while the car tells me I'm at...

My Black Beauty, i3 94Ahr Rex

Approaching 8 years old, and this is my HV battery health status after the most recent full charge. If you look at the figures, the SOC and SOH figures are very close to each other. Does that suggest that the battery is in near full health? Or does dividing battery capacity by rated capacity...

    New EV Battery Health App

@James:- I think you're rather missing a distinction here. The i3 rex may have a built in generator, but it is no way part of the 'drive train' it exists solely to generate power to the battery. The cars drivetrain is pure electric, this is not the same as a PHEV.

Any experience with updating the GPS maps?

BMW is for me one of the cheapest manufacturer map updates I've found, in that my i3 updates via a USB stick and is just £50 for a whole year of updates, which can be up to four in one year. My service agreement also included two updates in four years. You just need a large empty 32Gb stick, and...

    Rex & UK Road Tax

The distinction is that your car was registered after March 2017, because that's when the vehicle tax rules changed away from emissions and towards vehicle value. My i3rex '66 plate pays zero tax. Is it the case that yours was 2018, and valued at more than £40,000 as an on-the-road price Inc any...

myBMW App Works, But Not Showing Charge / Charging Status...

Mine has not logged charge received last couple of times, but does slowly update to say fully charged at xx:xx hrs. Also don't seem to get 'notifications' as often as I used to, re charging etc, and what time car predicts itself as full.

Black spots on Nav screen :(

My screen before it was replaced by dealer under warranty, which I subsequently replaced (once out of warranty) with a 10.25" unit.

Black spots on Nav screen :(

Apparently fairly common on older model screens. My '66 plate i3 (2017 model) with a 6.6" screen developed this problem by itself. It grew from a tiny splodge a quarter inch across, to bigger than a 50p piece. My second hand car warranty eventually replaced it for free with a BMW item, claiming...

    DIY HV Battery upgrade

That would be my thought also, once my battery warranty is expired.

My intro message. BMW i3S is brilliant, but needs big range Solid State battery

I contacted Lion Smart once years ago when that test i3 made headlines. They were quite clear that their tech would not be made commercially available to i3 car owners, and that their test i3 car was a 'proof of concept' demonstrator. They were (at that time) aiming solely at public vehicles...

    Regenerative braking question

In the UK it's not unusual for me to gain back 2-3% on downward hills, all while keeping slight pressure on the pedal to maintain a safe speed. Balance that with the thought if you reverse your journey you're still using power.

    Highest Mileage i3/REX?

82,000 miles on my '66 plate 94Ahr Rex, and no appreciable sign of battery range degradation in the three years I've owned it. I still get 100-135miles winter to summer. Only charged up to 90% at home unless I need the maximum range, and rarely fast charged. Battery kappa max still shows...

    Intelligent Octopus and 2018 94h i3

Also, GPS location within the vehicle must be on, for the tariff/app scheduling to work at all. I too see random schedule times reported back to my bmw app, and also the occaisional 'could not control your vehicle'. These I just ignore, as the schedule sets uniquely each time, and car charges...
