Question on Installing Level 2 Charger @Home

Yep. My point was 10h / 23.8h is closer to 40-50% than it is to 25% (it's 43% :geek:). So if someone's getting 25% charge off 10 hrs of charge with the provided OUC, the car must not be set to max charge rate or something else is hinkey. But OP got an L2 EVSE that solves the charge speed so...

    Charging port solenoid

I'm less familiar with the European plug but it sounds like it maybe doesn't have a latch on the plug and relies on the solenoid to secure the connection between plug and receptacle? By comparison the US version has a latch on the plug and the solenoid 'locks' that latch. A broken solenoid in...

    I Officially Hate Deer

Your butcher is quoting you way too much for deer jerky! In all seriousness though, this is one of those things I find amusing/sad/annoying: BMW - These new LED headlights are the best technology out there, they allow you to see in the dark better than anything before and avoid all sorts...

Question on Installing Level 2 Charger @Home

I think you struck a nice balance to go with an L2 station even if you're not maxing out the i3's chargers... as long as it meets your needs. Jumping to 240v doubles your charge speed with the only cost being an additional slot in your breaker box and if you have a very long cable run (and a...

Question on Brake Pads & Brake Fluid Change

As you mentioned, brake pad life is highly dependent on driving style, even more-so on an EV (or hybrid) because of regenerative braking. 100k miles isn't unreasonable on a set of brake pads in the right conditions. The only way to know where you're at for sure is to measure the pad thickness...

    Buying a used i3 94 Ah

I agree that you should be fine with the 94ah battery. Looking at it from a worst case scenario: the 70% "warranty threshold" of a 27.2kWh battery pack is 19.04kWh. In order to go 70 miles with that capacity, you'd need to average 3.7mi/kWh. Considering that your climate is pretty close to...

Help with understanding Range Loss over time

Thanks Jon! This seems do-able for the machine learning to account for and make a pretty good estimate (especially if you're accounting for localized temperature somehow) but it is another thing that would be a lot easier if the manufacturers would opt-in themselves. Similar to LeafSpy, there...

Battery Life Remaining on 2015 i3 w/37k at 17.4 kWh

It seems likely that this is in the realm of "normal". BMW or Samsung are probably the only ones who could answer for sure though. It actually sounds pretty good compared to what I've seen by tracking my car (thread here: https://www.mybmwi3.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=17163). From that...

    Front Turn Signals

It's amazing how many people have strong opinions on turn signals. I'll admit I'm one. I feel pretty strongly that turn signals should be amber (not red) and distinct bulbs from the brake lights. Oh, and I also changed to LED bulbs in the front. You could double that savings by being a...

Help with understanding Range Loss over time

Does Connected Drive actually allow you to view battery capacity/ state of health directly? Do the other brands APIs allow this? I see a lot of references to range as the metric that is collected, not an actual State Of Health number in % or kWh. What I'm getting at is: how do you...

Charting Battery Capacity/ State of Health Over Multiple Years

Since I've had the car, I've followed the ABC (always be charging) mindset. At first that was on 120v so I often left the next day at less than 100% charge. Then I got a Juicebox EVSE and could get to 100% in a few hours no matter what I plugged in at. I have charged at DC fast charge...

Charting Battery Capacity/ State of Health Over Multiple Years

I bought my 2014 i3 two years ago and I have been tracking various metrics that seemed relevant to battery capacity/ state of health since then. Because this seems to be a hot topic on here and because I like charts and graphs, I wanted to share some of what I have found. First, some...

    BEV No Heat, Again...

Mine's a BEV. The consumption certainly surprised me when I first saw it. At 6+ kW, I felt I needed to time my departures to only run preconditioning for a few minutes to "take the edge off" of the cold to not waste electricity on warming a car in my driveway, then one day I let it run for a...

    BEV No Heat, Again...

For whatever it's worth, I had a chance to capture the consumption for preconditioning this week because we had a cold night and I actually had a place to go in the morning. I set the departure time for 9:30 am. The ~1kW battery warmer kicked on from 6:30 to 7:15 which used just under 1kWh...

    Best fuel (octane) for Rex

As a BEV owner, I don't settle for anything less than 110 or 120, and even those are only for when I can't find 240... (volts of course)! But seriously, if you're filling up a 2 gallon tank once a month, it's a lot easier to splurge on "premium" gas or higher octanes rather than a 17...

    Hidden menu > correction factor

Doesn't BMW apply a "correction factor" to the speedometer to make sure it reads higher than your actual speed (to ensure you don't get erroneous speeding tickets)? I assumed that's what this was though I've never entered that part of the service menu.

    How do I find a junkyard i3?

Glad to hear you got it up and on the road! Not sure if you have more info/pictures on your "project", but I have a bit of a soft-spot for "project vehicles" and the EV + Carbon-Fiber of it all makes the i3 potentially more interesting if you'd care to share and/or have already posted somewhere.

    BEV No Heat, Again...

I think you might be on to something here. If I recall correctly, I saw a peak around 26 amps (at ~240v) one day I was actively monitoring the Juicebox app when preconditioning started. It ramps down pretty quickly, but I don't recall exactly how fast or where exactly it 'settles' for...

    BEV No Heat, Again...

Based on the noises in my driveway last winter, the heat pump/ compressor is indeed used for cabin heating. And yes, I can also confirm preconditioning will pull 20+amps for a bit while getting going! It does ramp down from there once it gets going, but definitely more than the OUC can handle.

    adaptive cruise control dropping out

I found it very interesting that this is apparently a big challenge for most technology that supports self-driving. Radar ignores most things it sees as stopped because it doesn't have the precision to tell if they're in your lane of travel or outside of it. LIDAR probably is best positioned...
