$5,000 HV Battery Repair Not Covered by Warranties

Thank you for sharing even though it is a real shame and raised my blood pressure! The timing of your drivetrain malfunction issue seems suspicious and it seems like the dealer could take that into account and write off the work and/or provide some sort of goodwill discount... IF they cared...

    I had a 3G to 4G TCU upgrade to prove a point.

Thanks for confirming. It makes sense they would do this under those warranty circumstances. But it's also more proof that BMW is lying when they say the upgrade is not possible which is unfortunate. Sorry, I don't know anything about the NBT EVO ID6. Not sure if you'd get any bites if you...

    I had a 3G to 4G TCU upgrade to prove a point.

Did they do the replacement out of goodwill or did you pay for the upgrade? If you don't mind sharing, were your prices similar to the OP's, about $900 for the TCU and $500 for install + ISTA programming? Was there any hesitation from the dealer on doing this work?

2014 i3 Rex - Power Bars Disappear Between 9%-13% SOC

Reading the bmwblog link you posted (I don't have a REX), you shouldn't be losing power blocks before 3% SOC, so this definitely seems wrong. I know you're trying to avoid stealership charges, but this seems to me like it should definitely be covered under the 8 year HV traction battery...

    $250 to update software?

This is interesting... I would have assumed only the BMW dealer would be able to update the car's software. Do independent shops have the ability to update all the software that BMW dealers can update? Are there certain things that are restricted to BMW dealers? Do independent shops need to...

    Ohio charging services

I would highly recommend Plugshare because it should have all the locations from other networks and you can see which ones you intend to use. It also has pictures to pinpoint location, general idea of whether you'll actually be able to charge there or if there are other unusual things you might...

Seat heater stops working every ~one drive in 20

I have a similar issue though mine is on any seat heat level and it pretty reliably cuts out after a few minutes, refusing to turn on until I park the car for a bit, but then it is fine to go for another few minutes so clearly no fuse has blown. It seems like there is some sort of monitoring to...

Placed an order on Sept 20, timeline for delivery?

This is just BMW's foray into the NFT craze: you pay money for a deposit and you get a virtual token that REPRESENTS an i3. Hold on to it. It can only go up in value!

Tesla Allowing CCS Charging at Superchargers!

Elon Musk has said a lot of things. I'll believe it when I see it. Snark aside, I was genuinely curious about this. For some reason I was under the impression the chargers had to be usable by "more than one" brand of vehicles. It made one wonder if Tesla would be able to play the loophole...

Software update needed for HV battery capacity check

This seems likely, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's true. A couple points: 1) It's not necessarily the software giving access to the 'buffer' that the car had when it shipped, it's possible that the software is giving back access to battery capacity that the BMS essentially walled off...

    Charging i3 on a Tesla 150kW

In Europe, Tesla has used the CCS plug (after the early Model S and Xs) so their chargers should should plug right into the i3. There have been reports of them opening the Supercharging network to other brands and at 50kW I assume you're talking about a supercharger...

    CCS Charger

Yes, 50kW charging is DC. I've had: * Charger is broken and is self-aware of that fact * Charger acts like it works but won't charge your car. Plugshare check-ins show it works for Chademo and also corroborates other CCS cars can't use it * Charger is slow -- like, 1kW slow. That was at an...

I took my 2014 i3 in for a battery capacity check and BMW added capacity to my battery

What's the magic 8 ball response: "reply hazy, ask again later?" Basically that's where I'm at. I definitely think *something* that BMW did impacted the way the car counts battery capacity. I suspect it was due to software upgrade but am open to the possibility it had to do with...

I took my 2014 i3 in for a battery capacity check and BMW added capacity to my battery

I tend to avoid looking at Range related metrics for my tracking because it varies too much based on the weather outside because I'm using the heat or AC. But in case you see something useful, here's a chart of that data on my car, duplicated: once colored by before/after capacity check and one...

Charting Battery Capacity/ State of Health Over Multiple Years

During the capacity check I went from: I001-17-11-543 to: I001-21-03-530. I can't say definitively that the software upgrade changed the BMS logic, but it seems to make sense to me. Art, yours would be a very interesting case with such low mileage and such an ideal climate for an EV. I...

I took my 2014 i3 in for a battery capacity check and BMW added capacity to my battery

It's true that I am associating the additional capacity with the software upgrade, but that may not be true. It could be the actual method of the battery test. I wonder if anyone has had a capacity check done without a corresponding software upgrade? Software update seems more likely to me...

I took my 2014 i3 in for a battery capacity check and BMW added capacity to my battery

Yes, I went from: I001-17-11-543 to: I001-21-03-530. As far as waiting... I'm not sure it's worth it. On the one hand, if your current capacity is adequate for what you need, then great! On the other hand, if you're starting to sweat the range on your trips, it's probably worth getting it...

Vehicle Finder/ GPS Tracking not working

I checked my car a few days after the last photo because I was going to intentionally toggle the "GPS tracking" off and then on, only to find it was not checked (despite me not changing anything since the last photo). I turned it back on and was able to track the car in the app for a few days...

    Dashboard controls

When I read that in the manual I thought, "yeah, right! " The other day I drove by a car that was spewing blue-white oil smoke out of the tailpipe and thought of switching it manually when it occurred to me that I don't particularly (no pun intended) recall smelling exhausts or dusty...

I took my 2014 i3 in for a battery capacity check and BMW added capacity to my battery

A quick update here (https://www.mybmwi3.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=17163&p=69898#p69898) where I am more convinced that BMW is 'sandbagging' a bit in their BMS which impacts estimated range. One additional thing I'll note is that with the software upgrade, my battery icon in the bottom...
