12V battery - DC charging hardware fault (?)

Yeah, before spending any money on something else, you might want to consider a new new 12v battery to see if that helps. It would be much cheaper than probably any of the other next actions to take. If you do end up having to go beyond the 12v battery, and depending where you are located, it...

    Rex replacement

I'm all for more rotary engines in vehicles and it would be super cool to have a turbine powered car if you need the REX option. On the complete opposite side of things, I remember reading about Toyota developing a Free Piston Engine Generator, which removes rotating parts entirely and can hit...

Adding aux in to LCI possible in any conceivable way?

I was surprised recently when I saw a picture of a recent i3 that had USB-C above the USB-A port instead of the Aux-in that I have. So yes, pre-LCI i3s had aux-in. You might find some inspiration here: https://bmwi.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1599490 but there seems to be no...

    Charging to 80% capacity

This is interesting because my understand of L2/ J1772 is that the state of charge for the car is not communicated to the EVSE like it is over CCS. So it would be impossible for the L2 station to know when your car hits 80%. However, it would also seem like a trivial bit of code to add an...

    Charging to 80% capacity

Thanks-- I did try that out the other day and saw the charge graph on my juicebox that the car charged the way you described! I had assumed "charge in timeslot" meant it would start charging as soon as the timeslot opened which is also how I would have programmed it. Or, maybe charge up to 80%...

Home charger not working: red light is on.

Thanks for posting the reply on how you fixed it! Though I don't know what EVSE you were using, from how you describe the solution, "silly mode" sounds a lot like the way I've seen other devices describe a ground fault interruption mode that requires a reboot of the device to reset.

2015 BEV - Weird Malfunction - Brake & Charging Warnings

The Bimmerlink app and a corresponding OBDII adapter can do the code scan as well. That could be a reasonable investment to avoid unnecessary dealership visits.

    Warranty Transferrable for 2014/2015?

Thanks for the link. I have the book that came with the car already but downloaded the electronic copy for convenience. The piece I was finding "shockingly difficult to find documented" is that the 8yr/100k mile is federally mandated, not just up to manufacturers to decide. Anyone can say...

    Warranty Transferrable for 2014/2015?

As a used i3 buyer myself, one of my assumptions was that the battery warranty did transfer. I've read multiple references indicating that in the US it is federally mandated that EVs have an 8year, 100k mile warranty on defects (which is why US i3s use 100k miles instead of 100km), however it...

    Charging to 80% capacity

Is this part of the "low cost charging" functionality? That's about the only setting I haven't played around with because I don't have TOU rates, so have no need. My L2 EVSE is capable of 40amps but the i3 only pulls 32. And it definitely charges to 100% as soon as it can, even if I have a...

    Charging to 80% capacity

That seems logical and it does fit with how other manufacturers have altered the available battery capacity even after a car leaves the dealer's lot. I think your other point is spot-on that the technology is still so new that manufacturers don't even know for sure what the best approach is so...

    Charging to 80% capacity

On all the products I sell, I advise people to put them in a hermetically sealed box and never use them. It really cuts down on my warranty costs. I'm pretty convinced BMW is actively trying to NOT sell any more EVs than they have to at this point.

    Charging to 80% capacity

Departure time charging scheme? When was this introduced and how do you get to it? Are you saying it allows you to tell the car you're leaving at 7am tomorrow and it will charge to 80% immediately then wait to charge the rest of the way so it hits 100% at 7am? I have only ever noticed the...

    Swapping 2017 / 2021 Leather Interior / Oak Trim?

FWIW I went down this rabbit hole once when my other EVSE was on hiatus, and though I'd like to be proven wrong, the 2014 OUC (7644239-03) does NOT seem to be 240v compatible. Jogging my memory from the links below, the issues are that the relay coil is 120v and there are some jumpers that...

Battery Capacity Test at dealership for 2014 i3 BEV

Thanks for posting the update. First off, I agree with all that Art said. Second off, I am baffled that BMW makes people pay for an update and test in this type of situation. If your car had 50 miles of range in typical conditions, that's pretty clearly below the warranty threshold. They...

How to Deliberately Lose Battery Capacity

Wow, with the used car market where it is right now I would absolutely pay $4,900 for a 60ah to 94ah upgrade! Now we just need someone to offer it in the US for similar price. I feel like this shop might be willing to do it as a custom request but none of their locations are close enough to...

How to Deliberately Lose Battery Capacity

Yeah, that's a good point and I agree they'll generally keep replacing the entire pack when a car is below the warranty threshold. Just wanted to point out that it's not guaranteed even if you fail their test. Sabotaging your car from 72-69 is one thing if you know you'll go to 100% but I...

Is GeniePoint 11Kw charging being overstated?

How are you arriving at the 15kWh value that went into the car? The i3 doesn't make this easy to discern. Are you calculating it from the % readout on the dash, or going into the service menu for batt. ladung? And what % were you at when you plugged in and when you left? The i3 ramps down...

How to Deliberately Lose Battery Capacity

I would add that there is enough mystery around capacity and how BMW measures it that it seems tough to intentionally fail the test. If you drain to near zero and DC Fast charge every single day for the next 3 months, you might drop below 70% but there's no guarantee. And that's a lot of...
