Bavsound install Tutorial and Review (replacement speakers worth your while)

You have the standard audio system, right? Also, did you upgrade the dash trim from stock Deka?

    BMW Connected- reliability?

ConnectedDrive data isn't necessarily instantaneous, and may not have been updated since the last event that triggered an update from the car to the BMW server. In your case, the last update was probably when the car shut down last and reflected the predicted range at that time under those...

    Improve aerodynamics for better mpK

What magnitude of high wind do you mean? I find even a 35mph crosswind very noticeably buffeting me around.

Question about 20 inch rims on i3

I've used Summer tires up until the first winter precipitation was forecast before, and you really do lose a lot of traction in cold temps. One year I figured a light snow wasn't such a big deal, and I found my old G35 couldn't get up the driveway that I had assumed for years was level. Summer...

frunk mobility tray - what goes in it?

Fallen leaves, just like the rest of the space in the frunk.

    20" wheels, Rex vs. Non-Rex, 2014 vs. 2017

I've needed the REX once in the year I've owned my '17 94 Ah. And that was optional, since I wanted to see how it worked. Could've taken my wife's gassed-up hybrid rather than my mostly-discharged i3 on a 40 mile both ways round trip. If you need tires for winter weather -- meaning snow, ice or...

Uh... Album Art, 2017 & older i3 HD Radio-- or SF Bay Area radio?

Here's a link to some interesting info about what data can be sent by an HDRadio transmitter (and potentially received by a consumer device). https://hdradio.com/broadcasters/engineering-support/ I noticed when scanning around, that some of my local stations send just the unchanging station...

Uh... Album Art, 2017 & older i3 HD Radio-- or SF Bay Area radio?

When you see the short all-caps info, you're seeing the old FM RDS station id text. I think the original concept of RDS was that mobile radios (in cars, etc.) would see this info to identify the station in 8 chars, IIRC. FM RDS had a secondary, longer field for program info that wasn't intended...

Drive Power cut in cold days

I've never seen the ePower bars go away like that, even with the car sitting outside not charging in single-digit subzero Fahrenheit air temps. Maybe I'm just not looking for it, but don't recall ever noticing that happening. I'll keep my eyes open the rest of the winter.

    Ext. Temp. Display?

There's a pushbutton on the end of the turn signal stalk labeled (on my US model) 'BC'. My wife theorized that it somehow dispensed some sort of birth control. Nevertheless, I tried it, and it toggles through the miscellaneous data display modes on the column mounted console -- including outside...

Pondering the notion of using an i3 as the basis of a home hydroelectric power setup. Why is this a bad idea...?

The i3 has a differential, so I guess that means you'll have to lock the opposite wheel in order to generate power. And also since it sounds like you already have a waterwheel in your mill, environmental concerns are "grandfathered in".

    Car in Park: Rollback Damage?

Even in a traditional ICE powered car, I'd be a little worried about just rolling back against the parking pawl. Welded to the bell housing or not, I'd think you could break it off in the worst possible circumstance if you don't engage the parking brake. And why find that out in the harshest...

How much do charging stations cost in your area?

Mine's quite close (just a mile past the Tesla showroom) and they don't mind at all when I come in to charge and go and get coffee for me and cocoa or water for the kids. If I don't get a cup, they come over and offer it. They've got USB charging ports at the bar and TV some comfy chairs. If my...

How much do charging stations cost in your area?

The paid level 2 chargers around here are $.234/kWh. The free stations are considerably cheaper. The best deal is the free DC Fast charger across from our favorite library -- when it works. Second best is the not-quite-as-fast DC Fast charger at the dealership. That comes with coffee, and almost...

18 inch versus 20 inch tires

Physics is pretty hard-donkeyed about that. The total contact patch depends only on the weight of the vehicle and inflation pressure. Any persistent imbalance would result in the car being sprung off the face of the earth or sinking into its infinite depths. So for a constant inflation pressure...

    Remove/disable charging plug lock?

You don't want to be in a situation where you could pull out the high voltage DC connection without shutting off the circuit first. You could draw a really nice arc that wouldn't quickly self-extinguish when it returned to zero like AC would -- because DC doesn't cross 0V periodically. That...

Carrying Cargo 'n Things with Our i3's...

You might still get it in with the front passenger seat fully reclined. I'd give it 60/40 odds that it would fit corner to corner.

Carrying Cargo 'n Things with Our i3's...

I managed to fit an 8.5 foot by 4" cardboard tube in the car. You've gotta fold down both rear seats to get it on the diagonal between the front seats and under the console, but it's possible. A front passenger would need to shift his/her feet a little maybe, but not to the point of discomfort...

    Blurred vision

I was searching the web to find out wtf that was, thinking it couldn't refer to a tropical hibiscus and had to be some trademark. But no, it is and it does.
