Didn't know about the eGolf having different battery sizes depending on the year, I only saw the later model 36kWh number for the later years. Looks like you should see a good improvement in range.

What range are you getting on your eGolf? It sounds like higher range is a top priority for you and I'm not sure you'll see much improvement, if any with an i3 BEV. Did I miss something in your post that would suggest this is OK?

Did you measure the voltage of the battery when removed? Does it remain hot? Wondering if there is an internal short. If it's something in the car that is causing this you won't have better luck with a new battery. Can you have your charging system checked?

You didn't mention if you cleared the error codes. These cars can be quirky especially around bad 12V battery issues. Clear the codes and put the car to bed for the night and see if it feels better in the morning. ;)

For longer trips in my Rex, I keep an extra 2.5 gallon gas can in the frunk so I can have even more flexibility on when to stop to refuel. Happy Rexing :D
