Hi! I'm new here. I'm going to retrofit black alcantara headliner in my BMW i3S. Will fit it to the car in the weekend or so.

Are you reupholstering?

Hey, while you've got that thing removed, can you snap some interior shots of the naked roof? I'm curious about space for installing reading lamps for the rear passengers, and possible hard points for a real roof rack. Especially interested since yours has the sunroof.

Looking forward to seeing the final results of your redecorating adventure.

Nice.

I did that project in my M3 twice-- once when it had a sunroof, and then again once I nixed the sunroof.

It really makes the car feel much more upscale, and here you get the added benefit of getting rid of the grey.

What color code alcantara are you using? And... what's the purpose of the plastic wrap?

I'm also curious what you're strategy is on the mirrors. I couldn't figure out a good way to do them. Even BMW used leather mirrors on cars with a stock alcantara headliner.

eNate: Yes, I'm reupholstering. I will take some pics next week for you.

KrisM: Thanks!

Obioban: Yes, I love the Alcantara headliner. I have done OEM Alcantara headliner retrofit for my current F01 and my old E60. The plastic item are replaced with OEM black ones, except of the grey part on the sun visor and for the sunroof, while are painted parts. For the last one, did you mean the sun visors and the mirror inside them? I have replaced the mirrors with OEM black mirrors. You can see them on the first picture.

Here is the sunroof covers. Im not sure what happened to the two dents on the left cover, but I guess its something inside the car who pull it upwards. Its on the workshop, so will look at it to the week.

Here it is (not finish, and the scratch on the sun shade will be repainted).

Hi Saltkjelen,

I'm totally in love with your work about alcantara retrofitting inside your BMW i3S :) I albo have my electric i3 and confusing about doing the same job as you. If you don't mind I'll ask you some questions according to the process.
1. Did you change sun visors to the OEM ones from another model of BMW? I can't find any alcantara sun visor with oval mirror cover.
2. Did you change all plastic items to the black one form another BMW model (hand holders, microphone covers and other plugs)? I read that you've painted only oval mirror cover and sun roof plastic cover, am I right?
3. Did you use spray fabric glue and did whole process on your own (also changing fabric on sun visors)? All the effect looks really awesome, but I'm most affraid about sun visors and changing fabric on them - that's why I asked you above about buing OEM one from another BMW model.

Hi!

The oval mirror and cover on the Sun Visors are from a Mini, so I splitted the OEM sun visors and replaced the fabric and the oval mirrors, then glued together. All other black parts are from other BMW models, expect of the sun roof cover (wich are painted) and the grey card holder on the sun visor. :)
