I'm planning my EV trip from UK to Germany and one question I have is regarding adapter usage for the supplied EVSE. When I'm at friends in Germany, I'm planning to use the slow EVSE for overnight charging.

Has anybody on here used his home supplied charger abroad yet, using an adapter? Would it suffice if I'd get a 3000W, 16 Amps rated adapter plug?

You shouldn't have any issues with an adapter cause you have the same voltage in the UK as in Germany. Both have 230V.

I am aware of that. But a lot of adapters are fused and don't even allow you to use a hairdryer in them. I guess that a higher amp adapter - I've seen 16 Amp adapters - should work?

As I said - I traveled a lot through Europe and had to use quite some adapters but I've never had issues (within the EU).

Obviously, if there is a fuse involved, you must have an adapter large enough for your anticipated usage. You'd really want something with a 20A fuse (in the USA, long-term-over 3 hours requires 125% of the applied load capacity; not sure about Europe). It must also include a ground connection.

Yes. The occasional use charger draws 10 amps maximum.

In fact, I have never measured more than 9.5Amps, and it falls off as the battery comes up towards full. The wall-mounted EVSE unit never exceeds 28.5Amps.

I managed to find a continental 3-pin 16Amp plug with an attached twin UK 13Amp socket on eBay and it looks a very good bit of kit.

Do you know to what amperage your adaptor is fused?

I've ordered this one.
