Screen upgrade acting weird

I have a 2017 registered i3 which came with the little screen. Purchased what I assumed to be the correct 10.25 screen from China and installed it. Used the accepted coding options and it only displays on part of the screen and cuts the text to the right side off. tried various other codings and the result is the same.

So I put the coding to what is the normal accepted settings and proceeded to install a CarPlay box. Set that via dip switches to large screen and it works correctly filling the whole screen. Go back to iDrive and back to the part screen.

Now it is entirely possible I have purchased the wrong screen but I am at a loss to explain the behaviour and wondered if anyone could give me a clue.

My 2017 i3 came with the smaller screen and I replaced it with this:

I found it on AliExpress.com as:

The best price at the time (March 2020) was from "opuradio": $367.08. The current prices seem to be around $650 (or $560 + $90 shipping).

To:
