I think you are talking about the traffic assist?
If s,o I have used it. It tends to work on freeways/ motorways and dual carriage ways, mainly where the road markings are clearly visible for the camera to detect.
I tend to light pinch the steering wheel with my thumb and index finger, ensuring that my thumb is on the silver metal embossed band.
As the adaptive cruise regulates speed and distance, you are able to see and feel the steering twitch and steer. I've tried to use only one hand but an alert comes on to remind you to hold the steering wheel.
I think that if you're in a long crawl then this is a relaxing, helpful option but for short durations its probably not worth it.

I'm reading the UK manual and it discusses a Queue assistant. Sounds like ACC plus steering for below 25mph / 40kph. Sounds like something for when queued up for a ferry, but could also be good in stop/go traffic.

It does say 2 hands required on the wheel, so perhaps in the US manual it's Traffic Assistant?

It is designed for queuing traffic on freeways during a jam but for the system to work effectively it needs clear, solid white road markings, for the camera.
Last time I drove in the states, I can't remember solid white road markings on the freeway, only metal studs in which case the camera would not be able to detect individual lanes.

I am struggling a bit with this on my 2015 I3 driving in the UK.

ACC works well in traffic on town roads and it will Stop/Go the car. The button for Queue Assistant just throws up a warning which I assume is to do with the fact that I am attempting to select it on a road other than a motorway. Am I correct in saying that if I find myself in a motorway queue, I can ignore the ACC and just press the queue assistant button followed by the paddle, and the car should be on autopilot?

Related to this - how do I know that the other safety features are enabled and working? I am thinking here of a pedestrian stepping out in front of the car, and warning of a potential rear end collision?

Edit: ignore my last question, I have now found the section on intelligent safety on the IDrive.
