An update on my previous post: I was able to get my wife's iPod classic to work using the iPod's cable instead of the BMW cable. It took the i3 about 10-20 seconds to detect the iPod, but once it did, it worked as expected. I tried this yesterday, so I can't say yet whether the iPod charges while connected, but it should.I did notice a few quirks:When I first connected the iPod, I hadn't set it to random (shuffle) mode, so the songs started playing in alphabetical order of song title. That isn't unusual, but I couldn't find any way to turn on random playback using the iDrive controller, I had to disconnect the iPod, turn on random mode there, and reconnect it. Just curious if there's a way to do this from iDrive.Unlike every other BMW we've owned, there are apparently no controls on the steering wheel that you can use to move to the next/previous song, you have to use the arrow buttons on the console. The bin under the armrest with the USB connector has no cover, so you have to disconnect or cover the iPod when you leave the car if you don't want it to be seen. The USB connecter in the glove box, which would be a better option for the iPod, is only for data transfer, according to owner's manual.
