As stated in a previous post - my Rex satellite radio operation was flakey. (FM OK!) On startup, the sat radio would either work or was dead. The problem was very intermittent and impossible to recreate for the service dept. Finally took the car in for service updates and the problem presented itself to a service tech. BMW is in the process of replacing the head unit. This, apparently, is an isolated failure which was a frustrating problem that surfaced at the right time in the service bay. I post only as a documented FYI.

I am surprised it works at all in the service bay, every time I pull into my garage the Sat radio goes off. (one story single family home)
Think it nees clear view of sky to work. Had one before and sometimes while driving in a downtown area with tall buildings it would go off.

He's probably talking about a different issue, but yes, mine will have a dropout sometimes when going through an underpass, or if the tree-lined road is dense enough. Don't' drive in a city with taller buildings for that to have been an issue yet. One would think that they could have a big enough buffer to overcome that, but then, there'd be a delay.

I did say service bay -- my bad. Of course it's not going to work without southern sky exposure in Nor Cal. The dealership replaced the radio head unit and all is OK now. Apparently a Sirius radio manufacturing glitch. That is all. :)
