I love my iPhone 6. How can I utilize it through BMW system?

I know contacts and music can be transferred into the system.

But can I access and of my other apps through the main pro nav screen?

Will the BMW screen display any of my apps?

My fondest dream would be to be able to utilize the iPhones maps app which at this point displays visual representations of every single building and topographicfeature in gorgeous 3d. In the last two years that have transformed. But I gather that one is impossible. My BMW I three will probably never work with CarPlay.

So my question is who has managed to access the power of their iPhone through their BMWi3?

Your car has to have the BMW Apps option then you need the BMW Connected app and a USB cable. If you use Bluetooth, iOS provides access only to music and contacts. Even with the wired connection, I wasn't impressed with the integration. I tried it with Twitter and my calendar. Content took ages to appear on the center display.

Personally I'm relieved to have missed CarPlay. I've got a closet filled with accessories orphaned by tech companies more interested setting the next trend than maintaining compatibility. I definitely don't want my cars in that category. As much as I'm hooked on Apple products, even I have to admit they're among the worst. There have been widespread reports of iOS 8 causing havoc with Bluetooth functions in a number of brands, not just BMW. And iOS 8 definitely breaks the music playlist functionality through iDrive; a basic function that worked seamlessly on the same devices running iOS 7.
