I took delivery of one of the very first Nissan LEAF's 3 years ago. I completely understand that it has been a learning process for dealers to understand how to sell and service electric vehicles.

I'm getting increasingly frustrated as BMW dealers seem to be taking the confusing details of financing/leasing/Owner's Choice to a whole new level.

I got this message from a dealer today AFTER I explained the $2500 CA refund and how BMW is passing through $4850 of the $7500 federal tax credit on the lease and treating the $7500 as a repayable balloon payment on Owner's Choice.

You're are still eligible for the $7,500 from the government you would just have to do the paperwork yourself to receive the credit. There is stipulations that allow you to get the credit like keeping the car for a certain amount of time. The $4,850 is just an extra credit that BMW is giving their customers.

Since we are talking owners choice with flex. The estimator BMW has shows for the owners choice option $7500 down payment. Now that's technically a zero down deal correct.?

In the estimator 7500 represents the fed rebate you wil have to basically send to BMW to pay back what is essentially a short term loan on the money.

Now as usual ther are taxes and tag fees to be added.

Somehow I think if you went in to a BMW store now and asked for tis same owners with flex and 7500 down , they would ask you. For a $7500 check in the business office!

Not saying they are cheating just confused, hope they really coached the finance mgrs on flex!

Anyway, not a bad setup but many have had trouble getting the tax rebate as it is on a conventional purchase, I worry about the docs and wording of owners with flex appearing as a traditional lease when it ends up in front of an IRS person!

Then you are waiting and arguing for 8 months to get your $
The finance guy at my local dealer understood how the flex worked. The salesman did not though.
