Hi I’m new here so hello
A quick and simple question. My compressor is silent and my AC doesn’t work. Should you be able to hear it when stationary with car turned on. It is silent so presumably faulty. Will it perhaps not operate if there is no pressure in the AC system? I am trying to diagnose the fault and possibly facilitate a diy repair.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, you generally can hear the compressor run from outside. It's not super loud or anything, though. Depending on the mode the car is in and the thermostat setting, it may just be not needed. It is an electrically driven pump, so you might want to first double-check the fuses. I don't remember whether that one has an in-line fusible link, or has a fuse in the fusebox, but the fusebox has a chart tucked inside that shows the function and location of the fuses (and a few spares, if I remember). It's not hard to access, but you might find it easiest to duck in from outside.

Hi Jim. Thanks for the reply. I have checked the fuses and my compressor is definitely silent. Next stop is to find out if there is any pressure in the system or if there is a leak somewhere. If the pressure sensor is faulty or it is the compressor. Off to an AC specialist to see if I can rule two of the three out. Thanks again.
