Installed my new 12V battery yesterday

My 2017 REx has the 94Ah battery, so the drop would be more noticeable on mine than yours. My thinking was that aside from the inefficient charging (putting extended load on the HV battery), there may be multiple cycles of the attempt, which might take a lot of energy too.

Installed my new 12V battery yesterday

My understanding is that the HV battery will automatically top off the 12V battery, even when the vehicle isn't in use. Do you know otherwise? If the 12V is failing, though, it'll draw down the HV battery without benefit ....

Installed my new 12V battery yesterday

Yes, Alohart, I first had a failure of the fob to unlock the door by proximity, though pressing the unlock button did work; then the radio wouldn't go on, and there was a brief notice "Unable to charge." The car worked fine the rest of the day, and I charged the HV battery to about 80%...

Installed my new 12V battery yesterday

Having seen many posts here regarding the 12V battery and the symptoms of its failure, I recognized when mine was going (including rapid drop in my e-range) ... and I didn't get stranded! I bought one online, that I could pick up just 15 miles away. Well, the item I ordered turned out to be a...

    front seat back removal

Yes, jadnashuanh, and when there's weight on the seat, the driver is alerted to have the "passenger" employ the seat belt (from my experience with my 2017 REx). I've learned to put my grocery bag on the floor!

    Stuck seat belt

I've experienced a temporary jam, similar to what you're reporting, when there was a twist in the belt that prevented its free passage through its ports. Maybe a stronger pull will get it through ....

What does your "miles to empty" show when full?

Hey, Whereitis -- you can expect a drop of e-range about 1/3 in winter, if your experience is anything like mine. My i3 is a '17, with the 94Ah battery. It reports over 140-mile potential e-range during summer heat (and four years ago it was 155), and drops to under 100 in winter (which used...

What Car Did You Drive Before Going Electric

The car I had before I bought my 3-year-old 2017 i3 REx was my favorite car ever: a '91 (which I also bought at its age of 3) Toyota MR2 with turbo, 5-speed and t-tops (2-liter, 200hp). I drove it for 26 years, and loved every moment. The car had great specs: 0 to 60 in 5.9 seconds...

I need advice on taking a road trip with a 2019 i3 Rex

A couple of years ago I did a 1500-mile round trip in 4 days, on the remote Highway 97 up through Oregon and Washington, testing all my vehicle's limits. Yes, I used the REx a lot (with a 2-gallon gas can in the frunk), and charged (Level 2) during sleep, and used fast chargers for my first...

SlashGear's "Here's Why The BMW i3 Was Discontinued"

Well, eNate, I'm often an exception to whatever social rules might happen to be popular. I chose my 2017 94Ah REx for its technology primarily (the drivetrain, not the body panels), and for the good value! It was 3 years old, with fewer than 15k miles on it, and I bought it online, sight...

    94ah range

My own '17 94ah REx, still with fewer than 30k miles on the odo, also gives me 4.6 miles/kWh (which I attribute to gentle one-pedal driving), but only shows maximum e-range of around 100 miles (sometimes less) in winter, and can be over 150 miles during the warmest weather. Maybe, since you're...

Buying used 2015 i3 all electric - questions on charging, range

Hi, Cargoman63 -- welcome to the forum and to the i3 clan! I'm in the Rogue Valley, far south of you, and not having the courage to get a BEV, my 2017, bought four years ago, is a REx. A year and a half ago I did manage the courage to launch a 4-day journey from southern Oregon to northernmost...

    Hello!

Hi everybody. I'm part of this subgroup too. My first e-car was a 2017 i3 REx too! Mine had fewer than 15k on it, and I bought it sight-unseen online, from a VW dealer 200 miles away, four years ago. It has over 27,000 miles on it now. I named it Bleuby; it's one of my closest friends. My...

    Replacing my i3 REx 2015

Thanks for that tip, Alohart. I considered that myself. Yes, Lexan would be good to use, but I wonder how that person managed to accommodate the compound curves: That panel has a slight arc both left to right and up to down. Being transparent, it could simply cover the lights (as my flexible...

    Replacing my i3 REx 2015

Thanks for the acknowledgement, Alohart. Checking first with the local trusted body shop, it was suggested that the total cost might be $1500 USD, considering installation, wiring and reprogramming of a replacement hatchback (since a replacement lower panel is not available). Research on eBay...

    Replacing my i3 REx 2015

Yes, alohart, but it's the glass hatch that bothers me: Why glass, when plastic could bounce back? And why isn't there a replaceable panel, when I clumsily back into a post and destroy that fragile part? The body shop says I have to replace the whole hatch cover, then get the latch programmed...

    Are REX problems worth it?

I bought my 2017 i3 REx in the spring of '20. I love having the REx for backup whenever I might need the range, and it has never had any glitches. I've only done one long trip, 1500 miles round trip, along a rural highway through eastern Oregon and Washington, all in four days. The REx made...

Rex is toast... Any way to stop maintenance cycle?

From the description of "flames coming out" when the exhaust pipe is removed, it sounds to me like a valve timing issue. I don't know if this engine has a belt, chain or gear linking crankshaft to camshaft, but that's what may have failed.

    Almost perfect, my 2017 REx

I bought Bleuby online -- how modern can ya get?! With under 15,000 miles on it in May, 2020, I've been enjoying the ride ever since. Just one complaint so far: the tempered glass body panel on the hatchback -- no "part number." Oh, and wouldn't it be fine to have bidirectional charging, to...
