    Cargo box?

200 lbs would be just enough (though more would be better ;-)) - I just wanted to make sure it really could take 200 lbs on the hitch with the dynamic pressures of hitting bumps and potholes. Thanks, Bob

    Cargo box?

Thanks for chiming in! Looking at the installation video again - it looks like the hitch installs to the aluminum frame -- https://youtu.be/tc4jgJuXbIM So should be alright - aluminum being a bit more forgiving than CFRP when it comes to odd stresses/loads?

    Long(ish) trip advice needed...

Don't sweat it too much if its not there, lots of 2014 and 2015s coming off lease now, and it looks like the prices are still dropping. Re-reading your first post, about driving the i3 to your wife's parent's place - don't forget to bring your level 1 charger with you and maybe a good 12/3...

    Long(ish) trip advice needed...

your trip (either route) is very much within reason with a coded i3. After you code your i3, I would do the first few trips with the hold SOC at 75%. After a few drives (with some inclement weather) you will get a better feel on how the REx engages and interacts with the battery and also find...

    Cargo box?

Greetings All, I see there is an aftermarket hitch that one can add to the i3 - assuming for the intention of transporting bicycles: https://torkliftcentral.com/2014-2017-bmw-i3-ecohitch-reg It looks like the limit is 200 lbs. Do you think the i3's frame could take this weight in the rear...

    2014 i3 with 94 Ah 2017 battery - in California!

Did your search turn up any other dealers selling these 10 cars? I would be curious if they also included REx versions. Thanks!, Bob

Subjective: Best timing to get a Used/CPO i3?

Greetings All, We are somewhat considering getting a second EV. We love our 2015 i3 REx, and considering getting another one (though maybe just plain BEV version this time). It looks like the market value of used i3s are dropping quite fast, but I suspect it'll level off somewhere soon? With...

I accidentally bought the wrong i3

This was actually a small selling point for us. We generally avoid brands that could be considered "pretentious" - to avoid the headache of higher likelihood of vandalism and targeting for muggings, etc ...Since its so "ugly" folks may leave it alone was the wife's thought ;-) Because the...

I accidentally bought the wrong i3

Wow that is a really nice ride, didn't know it could do 620 miles range on a single fuel up & electrical charge. While i love my gen 1 insight, it isn't all the comfortable, and can only fit two passengers...Being made in 2006 - it feels primitive compared to most contemporary cars, the i3...

I accidentally bought the wrong i3

This is really location dependent, “Free” DC charging is great if you can get it. However I put quote marks around “Free” because the chargepoint card you get with the i3 is only good for 2 years if you buy new, one year if you buy CPO. In addition during our 2450 mile round trip, DC charging...

I accidentally bought the wrong i3

If you have the extra 2 prongs under the the circular plug (either SAE or Mennkes) - you have a combo plug, so you should be able to do DC fast charging. As Alohart mentioned, there are different levels for DC charging...however even at the most basic DC charging at 40kw is still much faster...

What is the latest software version for the i3 - US?

Greetings all, Our i3 is due for a scheduled maintenance check next month. Does any one know the latest software revision? In the event we need a software update, and the assumption that when they update the software, it links the VIN with that particular car's official configuration - I'll...

    Bimmercode App experience?

Hey Bob, Wow it sounds like you having a lot of difficulties with the App - have you considered coding your car with the (albiet more time consuming/steeper learning curve) - bmw coding software. laptop and odbii to ethernet cable? I performed coding updates to our REx (fuel tank capacity...

    Bimmercode App experience?

My personal best for a refueling is 2.34 gallons. This takes a bit of time and getting the right flow rate or pumping technique... I coded our REx with the traditional odbii cable and software on the laptop setup. There is supposedly still 1 liter in the tank even after coding and empting the...

I accidentally bought the wrong i3

EVs are new, and there are various charging ports are out there. Its easy to get inundated with just the standards on charging ports especially if you start reading articles for EVs not in your home market (ie SAE vs Mennekes) .. then you have Tesla that only has one physical port that can do...

I accidentally bought the wrong i3

I would say code the car, so you can engage the REx early and get the full capacity of the fuel tank and try it out before selling it. While not being able to do DC charging sucks, it may not be a total deal breaker. During my last 1200 mile trip, I did way more fuel stops than Level 3...

    Vapor leak causing fire?

Read this post about a Rex Here: https://www.reddit.com/r/BMWi3/comments/6oc5cn/bmw_i3_caught_fire/ "Just a fair warning, my coworker was working on an i3 two days ago. The vehicle had the vapor line replaced due to a recall, before it was given to him . He literally opened up the rear of the...

Will the BMW dealership reinstall the software if you are already on the latest revision?

Greetings, Assuming my i3 is on the latest version of the software (It was just at the BMW dealership a 2 months ago for damaged charging port). If I bring the i3 to them to check "Check Engine" Light/CEL - Would they reinstall the software or reset codes to default?

Why should I get Professional Multi Media Package

Initially I was considering switching the entire entertainment system - then realized way too many factors involved...switching the screen was waay less risky and easier -- you can find the discussion thread here: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?p=10128689 When I have some more...

3M Crystalline Clear Tint/Film - Does it make a noticeable difference?

That would be the next item for consideration, if using the Crystalline film on the windshield is not effective at helping in keeping cabin temps down while driving. If you don't mind me asking, did your tinter itemize your receipt? If so can you tell us how much it was to get the windshield...
