1st long trip in our 2015 i3 REX : Bay Area to Tahoe

Yep, with a little planning, you can go just about anywhere in a REX. I also have 2015 REX and recently went on the 1650 mile round trip on I-90 Washington to Montana and back with several mountain passes and cold temperatures (in the teens overnight). Piece of cake. Did a write up here...

Loss of Power in Real Life after 30 seconds

I have never noticed this. Interesting, thanks. It would be a pretty extreme situation to have this come into play I'm thinking. Floored for 30 seconds.

Loss of Power in Real Life after 30 seconds

There is no loss of power unless your battery is very low. You can go up any hill an ICE can go up at normal speeds... you can accelerate with no loss of power. Not sure where you got this idea.

Rex Junior and the tale of comfy winter driving without using the heater.

Hey, thanks for the comment, but I was perfectly comfortable. That's the point. I did not sacrifice my comfort, I just extended my range. I would look into the heated motorcycle clothing if it were a better option for me, but it isn't since only my ankles get cold. Might be a good idea for...

Rex Junior and the tale of comfy winter driving without using the heater.

Thanks, Bob. I was fortunate to have the DC fast chargers available and working without any issues. This allowed me to decide how much gas I was going to consume instead of having it locked in. The short breaks for charging were acceptable to me now that I am older and not in much of a hurry...

    I'm a newbie.

If you are on facebook there are a couple of i3 pages that are well worth perusing. Check out the files section.

    Overwhelmed buying used i3

"BTW What does BEV stand for?" I believe it stands for Battery Electric Vehicle.

Rex Junior and the tale of comfy winter driving without using the heater.

Actually having the defrost at 60 does not keep the interior anywhere near 60 when using Eco Pro mode with outside temperatures in the teens or twenties. It's better than nothing, but it's not real noticeable heat. If I could have gone without defrost, I would have. Thanks.

Rex Junior and the tale of comfy winter driving without using the heater.

"... I'd just take an ICE car for that trip. Run the heat, go 100mph on the highways, not sweat the details." Well, bully for you! I use as little gas as possible everywhere I go, and that includes long trips. I have just one vehicle and am not about to rent a gas guzzling stink pot... and...

A level 2 charger for two cars at once?

ChargePoint does make a dual charger. I have used one in a town we go to sometimes. It shares the power just like you mentioned. I imagine it would be more expensive than the Clipper Creek. They are made to be networked, therefore more complicated.

Thanks for the kind words! Not sure if it would keep up, but I think if you set the 110 volt charging to low it might... although it would not make much of a boost in the battery percentage : ) Might get you to a real charging station if you were very close though. Never thought of that.

Rex Junior and the tale of comfy winter driving without using the heater.

I have just returned from a 1,650 mile round trip from the Washington state coast to Bozeman, Montana and back in my 2015 Rex. I took off on Monday at 5am and returned Friday afternoon. Spent Wednesday at a book reading by my beloved 85 year old aunt in Bozeman. Used DC fast chargers 11 times...

hotel/motels w/charging in San Luis Obispo & Pasadena?

No. You use a CCS DC fast charger, not a Chademo.. which is for Souls and Leafs.

hotel/motels w/charging in San Luis Obispo & Pasadena?

The Plugshare app should show you what is available in the area. Set your filter to show restricted chargers as well. Some motels don't show up otherwise.

    Driving UK to Portugal Heelp!

You should get the plugshare app if you do not already have it. Reading the comments people leave for various stations may help a lot. I would try to keep the state of charge no lower than 20-30% with the Rex just in case a station you are relying on does not work or is in use... so you have a...

    Finally obtained Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3's

I noticed the same thing when I put these tires on. It made a huge difference. I had to retrain myself to let off the accelerator earlier... but most importantly I learned to let off all the way on approaching a stop instead of just part way. It took a lot longer for me to get comfortable...

Bay Area to L.A. in a REx...newbie seeks trip advice

You will get the hang of it. I am doing a 1600 mile round trip in my 2015 Rex in a few weeks.... temps in the teens and twenties in Montana... going from the Washington coast to Bozeman MT. Sea level to over 6000 feet. Should be interesting. Have fun!

Bay Area to L.A. in a REx...newbie seeks trip advice

Get the plugshare app and set the filters for your i3. CCS and J-1772. Read the comments on the various plugshare listings to see how reliable a station might be, or has been recently. When DC fast charging, sometimes it works better to hold the connector firmly to the car while the charger...
