i3 is the absolute most hated car at Public Chargers

Yes, but there is no setting - it either works or it doesn't. There is no "Yes" option or other configuration as suggested by the OP.

    Has anybody tried wider tires?

I don't think it's going to help much, but please let us know if you figure out a solution. Your front tires are 155, so making the jump to 195 would be significant. A few tuners have posted photos with aftermarket wheels that appeared to be wider, but I haven't seen anything off the shelf that...

i3 is the absolute most hated car at Public Chargers

Do you even have an i3? There is no configuration for hospitality charging.

    Has anyone got a fault-free i3?

My average is also 3.6mi/kWh lifetime, but I can easily average around 5mi/kWh (with a/c) any time it's needed to stretch the range. 6mi/kWh and up takes some effort, including keeping speeds down and minimizing accessory use.

    tires prone to puncture?

Yes, they should've come here first. Think of how much time it would've saved them!

Bang, then shut down, drivetrain malfunction error.....

For some reason the unlock appears to work fairly often on Chargepoint units (even on 2014/early 2015 i3s). Not sure about Volta, since they're not nearly as widely deployed yet. In contrast, it rarely (or never) works with home L2 units on cars built before 3/2015.

Bang, then shut down, drivetrain malfunction error.....

For some reason it has worked for some cars, on some EVSEs, regardless of build date...but hasn't been consistent. Based on the bulletin from BMW, it should be consistent on 3/2015 builds and newer. Here's the official wording: "On vehicles from 3/2015 production, hospitality charging (charger...

Bang, then shut down, drivetrain malfunction error.....

This is incorrect. It actually has hit the USA market - version I001-15-03-501 includes it - but it only works on cars produced from 3/2015 onward and is not backwards compatible with older builds, which is quite frustrating for some 2014 and early 2015 model year owners.

Bang, then shut down, drivetrain malfunction error.....

Yes - known issue, not typically a concern. There's a procedure to correct it, but it's probably not worth a visit just for this since it's basically cosmetic. I would wait until you have other service due and ask them to take care of the REx condensation issue.

Why does an I3 need vented front discs?

Good thinking, but it looks like the rotors are not used on any other BMW models. They could still be shared with one of the Mini models, since that's the case for some of the other parts on the i3.

Why does an I3 need vented front discs?

Because some owner's driving styles require use of the brakes much more often than others. Plus alohart's point about the track (and auto-x). The brakes wouldn't hold up well at all if the front rotors weren't vented.

    Build Quality - poor? DANGEROUS?

Maybe the same thing that makes someone represent a perfectly acceptable design choice, that happens to go against their preference, as something that's "dangerous". On the other hand, this thread is discussing a legitimate issue with one car - I hope it's an easy fix.

REx owner, considering second REx or BEV

Unless something changed in August, which is doubtful, the $7500 lease credit only applies to 2015s. 2014s are still stuck at $4875. On any leftover 2014 you should be shooting for a minimum of $10K off sticker before any tax credits or lease rebates.

That's true - we see those accident reports several times a week. Thanks for the reminder.

How long did you wait for them to shut off?

    The cold room

I agree, this is one of those advantages with an EV that you don't know about until you've actually owned one. Another is the near-instant heat in the winter, vs needing to wait for an engine to warm up.

    Coding the i3

Choose "Activate Comfort Climate" from the screen that shows up when you shut the car off or open the door. You can also assign this to a preset by going into Settings, Climate, then hold down one of the 8 preset buttons on the dash. Note that the a/c will only stay on for 30 minutes if you do...
