    Real World Highway Range

From another thread regarding the 60Ah REx: My results are also slightly better with the 60Ah BEV, but I would still expect to fast charge every 50-60 miles at highway speeds with a full charge. Our driving is usually 90% city/10% highway, and we get approximately 75 miles in comfort...

    2014 purchase

The main reliability issues seem to involve the REx engine, so personally I'd only buy the BEV. As for maintenance, replacing tires every 15-20k miles is the big cost. The battery is generally reliable. If you're buying a 2014, make sure you get CCS fast charging. It was standard in 2015+. It...

    Updating Maps

I'll start keeping track of the update versions, and report back. I agree with your complaints regarding the BMW maps. I even subscribed to the real-time traffic updates, but it's nowhere near as good as Google Maps. Still, I think I'll subscribe to the USB maps subscription and the...

    Updating Maps

The two allegedly worthless quarterly updates still take a few hours to install, so maybe it is uninstalling and reinstalling the same data. Do you have more information regarding that? The retail cost is $80 for one update and $150 for the annual subscription. I find that unobjectionable.

    Updating Maps

I pay for an annual subscription from Bimmer America that includes 4 usb sticks that are shipped to me, once each quarter. I'd say it's worth it, though the maps information is still worse than Google Maps.

2014 i3 getting only ~40 miles on full charge

Depends how far you're going. For a 160-mile road trip (relevant to my purposes), I can go 60 miles on the first segment in comfort, followed by a 12-minute charge to maximize charging speed up to 65% (50 miles). (The first-generation i3 accepts a 45 kW charging rate until ~65%, dropping off...

2014 i3 getting only ~40 miles on full charge

We've driven 7K miles in Texas on our 2014 BMW i3 BEV, and we get approximately 80 miles/charge with 4.2 kWh/mi. Most driving is in the city with occasional highways. The worst we've experienced was about 50-mile range when the temperature dropped to the 30s. Once we refilled the tire...
