4G TCU retrofit update (it's positive)

Glad you got it solved! Fortunately for me, my old TCU failed while under BMW warranty and the dealer replaced it with a new 4G LTE box. My connected drive works fine. Again, glad to see it was solved for you!

A puddle of gas under the rear of the car.

I had a puddle of gas leak under my car this morning I was filling from a 2 1/2 gallon can of premium and poured nearly half the 2 1/2 gallon can into the i3 filler spout… after the gas can was half full, I thought this was odd because the REX motor only went through a couple of maintenance...

Changing NBT to NBT EVO in i3 retaining connected drive

Has anyone done a conversion from NBT ID4 with TCB to a NBT EVO unit with ID5 or 6 and ATM and got BMW to recognize the new ATM telematics box so connected drive can be used? The NBT ID4 I currently have is S-L-O-W. Would be nice to have built in CarPlay (instead of using RoadTop) and remote...

    I had a 3G to 4G TCU upgrade to prove a point.

Here’s a transcription of the invoice: (Sorry, I’ve never uploaded an image) CUSTOMER IS EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH CONNECTED DRIVE AND SOS. SEE SFTS. FAULTY TCB 6121528(1) 0000006(4) 6100006(1) tp 18m/485 8410811(6) 6100730(4) 8411021200 ps 1. HOOKED UP CHARGER/PULLED FAULTS, 2. RUN TEST PLAN...

    I had a 3G to 4G TCU upgrade to prove a point.

Yes, the screen still states “3G”.. I know what you mean. FWIW: One of the two 2017 i3 owners I know tried to renew his connected drive and services and the person at BMW exclaimed he was “out of luck”… It’s kind of crappy outside today, and I have a pile of stuff in the back seat, I’ll post...

    I had a 3G to 4G TCU upgrade to prove a point.

The question I ask is: Has anyone done a conversion from NBT ID4 with TCB to a NBT EVO unit with ID5 or 6 and an ATM and got BMW to recognize the new ATM telematics box so connected drive can be used? I may have a working connected drive setup, but the older NBT ID4 is slower. Would be nice to...

    I had a 3G to 4G TCU upgrade to prove a point.

FYI: I’m not insisting anything. I’m just stating FACT. I saw the invoice and the unit they took out - I looked at the part myself BEFORE I brought it in, and saw the new part after I rehooked up the RoadTop box. They wouldn’t work on it under warranty with the RoadTop box connected. And...

    I had a 3G to 4G TCU upgrade to prove a point.

Yes I’m sure it was a 3G telematics box (aka “TCB”). My actual build date was 04/17. I was told the reason why the TCB was replaced in December 2021 was because it became intermittent and didn’t work (for whatever reason) consistently. My remote services weren’t working properly, the dealer...

    I had a 3G to 4G TCU upgrade to prove a point.

Well, here is an update on my 2017 i3 REX and the 4G TCU replaced under the original BMW factory warranty which expired on 12FEB2022…now my BMW 24 month extended warranty kicked in on my i3. I extended my RTTI services for another year (until MAR2023) on the BMW website and connected drive...

OE Reverse Camera (Option 3AG) seems easy to retrofit?

The cable is a complete cable. From the fuse Block and NBT to the camera. Figured it out.

    I had a 3G to 4G TCU upgrade to prove a point.

I confirmed the ICC and IMEI is 4G of the new unit and the part number. I should start a new thread on this because it would be nice to run an NBT EVO ID6 box rather than the RoadTop box I put in. Yup, I confirmed it. I hope what I posted helped.

    I had a 3G to 4G TCU upgrade to prove a point.

Is it possible to hook up the new 4G telematics module to an NBT EVO ID6 unit? Is there a cable for this? (I know a WiFi antenna is needed, a transformer to adapt voltage for video screen and I believe an ethernet cable for GPS)

    I had a 3G to 4G TCU upgrade to prove a point.

My BMW has original factory warranty until the end of Feb 2022. The remote services started “acting up”, I reported it to the dealer and they replaced the 3G telematics unit with a 4G unit. I don’t know what price the whole thing cost, when I picked up my car, the service invoice stated it...

    I had a 3G to 4G TCU upgrade to prove a point.

The BMW dealer replaced the 3G Telematics unit in my 2017 Rex (under BMW warranty until end of Feb 2022) with a new 4G telematics unit. Remote services work great. More reliable. It works more reliably in remote areas where 3G is spotty. Now if I could install an NBT-EVO / ATM telematics...

    I had a 3G to 4G TCU upgrade to prove a point.

Are you sure it will be a gift card one can use anywhere…or only a gift card one can use for their overpriced stuff in their catalog or stores..? 🤪

    I had a 3G to 4G TCU upgrade to prove a point.

No, I haven’t read the battery warranty. I’ll take your word for it. —- At this point I wonder if BMW will offer an option to upgrade BMW vehicles to change the 3G telematics module to a 4G unit for those folks who are paying or have paid for remotes like your 10 year internet access, without a...

    I had a 3G to 4G TCU upgrade to prove a point.

Speaking of battery: Has anyone ever seen the 425+ mile conversion battery for the i3? I read about it, but besides the article, never heard about again. I believe it was a 100AH battery? (I may be wrong)

    I had a 3G to 4G TCU upgrade to prove a point.

Of course they would fight it. Any company would analyze the probability of the outcome and either “give in” or settle. (Come to an mutual agreement) —- What was your expectation when you bought your vehicle regarding the internet service? Did you purchase the 10 years of internet from BMW? If...

    I had a 3G to 4G TCU upgrade to prove a point.

This looks I was correct. The 3G shutdown is turning out to be a big snafu. I smell class action lawsuit and a bunch of companies are going to get dragged into this. I suspect BMW may possibly offer an upgrade to owners of BMW i3 and i8 vehicles because the battery warranty (8 years or 100,000...
