    CarPlay option not appearing

No, it's a box which needs wiring into the media system, I don't know if this is a DIY possibility, I know that I am incapable of doing anything more complex than changing a lightbulb, so I had mine professionally installed.

    Engine management light illuminated constantly

So, the dealer has informed me that the crankshaft sensor is most likely the root of the problem and that replacing it involves removing the REX, costing around £2,000 in labour alone. Has anyone else had this problem and how was it solved?

    Engine management light illuminated constantly

Whilst we were away over the holidays I received one of those automated survey responses from BMW UK asking about my experience at my recent visit to the dealer. I responded honestly and discussed my disappointment at having paid for a fault to be fixed and for it to reoccur within days, I...

Potential Buyer with a few simple questions :)

In the UK licence plates have the year the car was originally sold as part of the identification, so its an easy way to refer to a car's age.

Connected Drive authentication message not arriving on UK 2021 i3s - SOLUTION

Another UK owner, as my screen name might suggest.

    Upgrade battery.

You mirror my thoughts exactly, if I could have a 400km range in MrPorter then I would probably keep it for the rest of my life, although I haven't yet seen an acceptable alternative to the i3, so just might keep it forever anyway.

    Say "Hello" to Mr. Porter

This is MrPorter, my 2017 94AhRX. Made as a joint promotion by BMW UK and the high end online store Mr. Porter. The plan was to make 6 of them sold online by MrPorter.com; however only four were actually produced. They were imported in Caparis White and delivered to Rolls Royce in Southern...

    Custom frunk solution

Having had the thing now for a couple of months, I like it. It keeps the contents of the Frunk clean and dry and whilst closed there is still room in the Frunk for the big charging cable. But, more than anything, it just looks nicer.

    Engine management light illuminated constantly

And exactly one week after returning from the dealer, the problem has arisen again. I took the car yesterday on a 50 mile round trip, I thought that I would try the RX on the return leg. I turned it on and everything was fine until about 5 miles from home the dreaded "Only electric drive...

    Engine management light illuminated constantly

My local BMW dealer had the car for 36 hours, couldn't find anything wrong, cleared the fault and told me to keep an eye on the dash to see if the EM light returns - if it does, then the engine will have to be dropped to be checked. The balance of the time was having the BMW Advanced Car Eye...

    Engine management light illuminated constantly

On Tuesday my main battery was down to 5% and the Range Extender started, I drove with the engine running for 2 or 3 miles. Then parked the car on the street whilst I moved my other car out of the driveway. I then got back in the i3 to pull it into my driveway and charge it, as I started the...

    CarPlay option not appearing

My 2017 Rex was equipped with every option except the heat pump and Apple CarPlay; there is no way to fit a heat pump, but I did get these nice folks https://unique-ad.co.uk/product/wireless-carplay-bmw-i3-widescreen-8-8/ to fit CarPlay and I use it ALL the time.

Tesla Allowing CCS Charging at Superchargers!

Here in Europe Tesla have opened many of their Superchargers to other brands, much easier here as all Teslas sold here have been fitted with CCS connectors for the last few years, more details in the link below...

Explain the windshield tech please/golf ball damage

Forgive me, but I fail to see why you are trying to save someone else's money; if he has admitted fault then you need to be made whole. And the only way to do that is to have the vehicle in exactly the same state as it was prior to the golf ball impact. That is with a factory installed...

BMW i3 among the most reliable cars in Germany

Three years plus into running Mr Porter 2017Rex, I have had two problems in total - both related to the 12v battery. Other than that, it has been the most reliable vehicle that I have ever owned.

Does anyone have a wifi hotspot in their i3?

As I am a journalist, specialising in the luxury industry, I was able to get in touch with the CEO of Mr. Porter who told me that the plan was to produce six - however demand wasn't as strong as expected and only four were made and one was kept by BMW. I also discovered some other interesting...

Does anyone have a wifi hotspot in their i3?

Yes, my 2017 94Rx has one, which my phone automatically logs into the moment I enter my car. I don't know if it was an option in Europe, or standard fitment, as mine is a Mr. Porter spec and has literally every option box ticked - apart from the heat pump.

    Security of the i3

I think that the main security feature of the i3 is that it is utterly undesirable to your average car thief. This became obvious at the end of last year when I parked mine in the centre of London, got an umbrella out of the boot, ran into an old friend and completely forgot to lock the car. It...
