    UK Rapid Chargers

Quite so. I can't see that stopping every 70-80 miles for a quick top-up is anything like as bad as: (1) having a spare car for long journeys only (needs taxing, servicing, parking, etc.); (2) hiring a car for long journeys (needs organisation, collection, and return. And costs!); (3) using...

Pre-heating Rex when connected to charger?

I ordered an Orange i3 in mid-March and expect it early November. It'll nearly be winter when it arrives, and I would like to know if I'll be able to warm the cabin before departure on a journey if the car is connected to my charger. The manual - page 128 - is vague about this point, but...

Please Seriously Consider a 4WD SUV for the i-series

As I have pointed out elsewhere, the i3 isn't actually very "green". But it's a super car. I'm sure BMW's motivation for producing it was, as much as anything, to try and get their whole product line's CO2 average emissions down so they could keep selling gas-guzzlers. That's required by EU...

    How green is my i3?

I should, perhaps, have admitted that I do have a 3.35kW solar PV array so, provided I charge the car when the sun is shining, I'll get paid to drive around! But my general point was about the total CO2 issue. The tailpipe emissions are as the manufacturers claim, of course, so that's...

    How green is my i3?

I’m doubtful whether electric cars help Global Warming much at all – after all, most of the electricity at present comes from coal, oil, or gas-fired power stations whose thermal efficiency and transmission losses deliver less horsepower to the road than petrol-driven cars (which have comparable...

    Speed Limit indication

I have specified that option, but notice that speed limit signs are often obscured and lorries' speed limit signs are said to confuse the camera-based system sometimes. The Merc's system uses its GPS to decide when the limits change. That's the good news. But the bad news is that limits change...

    Speed Limit indication

On my Merc, the map display (optionally) shows the instantaneous speed limit at all times. It's amazingly accurate, too, changing as we move between limits almost exactly as we pass the signs. It's a REALLY useful feature, so why not have it on the i3?

    Speed Limiter

I think a speed limiter addition to the car would be great. I have Speed Limiter and Cruise Control on my Merc. I hardly use the Cruise Control, but the Speed Limiter keeps me legal so I use it a lot. I haven't got my i3 yet, but I suspect that estimating my speed by ear will be harder in it so...
