I3 won't charge. Dealer has tried 3 things and wants do a 4th for $10k

Hmm... I don't have any experience with this but in case it helps anyone more knowledgeable, what happens when you plug it in? Does the charge port light come on/ does the car acknowledge that it has been plugged in and attempt to charge? Any error messages on the dash? I'm assuming the...

2014 BEV $7k repair quote, scrap the car?

Everything I've seen is that the BEV is 8yrs/100k miles due to federal law. You're right California has additional coverage due to emissions, but that only applies to PZEVs, so only the REX is covered. This guy's story includes a similar situation trying to figure out the warranty, but he has...

Satnav do not work after map update attempt

If you care to go the upgrade route, it is possible to buy a "lifetime FSC" code. I did that on eBay a while ago for $23 and even though I was a bit skeptical, it worked well. That was for North America, but I assume someone offers it for Europe if they are even regionally specific. Just be...

    Slapped by Winter’s Cold

It does, and I was expecting the same but I don't know what temp the i3's heat pump actually loses its effectiveness. Glancing around, it seems like it might be in the low 20s which is right about the bottom end of where I have a good amount of observations. Probably if I lived somewhere even...

    Slapped by Winter’s Cold

I've been tracking various things about my car for the past 4 years and living in the midwest means I'm "lucky enough" to have data corresponding to a wide range of temperatures. This is a sample size of one car, so that should be taken into account but I think the themes are probably relevant...

    Illinois

"Balmy" southern Ohio here but parking outside in these temps means the battery gets entirely cold soaked. This pic is with no preconditioning and no effort to conserve energy while driving; Comfort Mode & Climate control set to 68F. Battery was -6C (21F). Fortunately I don't have to go...

    Life after warranty

Re: climate - If you have Bimmercode and the OBDII dongle, I suspect you could do it. As far as I can tell, Bimmercode only overwrites the module (or possibly even just the setting) that you're working with, so it's probably unlikely it'd overwrite your autopilot. Anyway, in case it helps: the...

    Powering House Appliances From i3

It's really not any different... but also it is different in ways that may or may not matter. You can safely do it in an enclosed space (BEV only) for one. And there's no engine idling sound. The biggest one might be that after the outage you can plug your car back in and it "refills the...

4G TCU retrofit update (it's positive)

Thanks for going through this and sharing your updates! It's nice to know BMW is lying about there not being an upgrade path, but also it's a little reassuring that their tech isn't as horribly designed as the customer service claims when they say it's impossible to upgrade a modem. As a...

2017 i3 spare Key fob "lazy" after battery replacement

The behavior you're describing is consistent with a dead fob battery. Holding the fob to the steering column does not require the fob to have juice in the battery (that's the point of it). I'd recommend troubleshooting that way; check the battery again - is it installed right side up? Does it...

2021 BMW I3S REX with 11,000 miles. Dealer told me today needs new tires. Doesn't sound right to me

Ahhhh! Just realized you have an i3S, so 20" rims instead of 19" which was the pricing I was quoting. I believe Art has 19" rims as well. TireRack lists the rear for your car as EP500 195/50R20 93T XL and I'm seeing $348 per tire as well. That's a bummer for your wallet but would explain it...

    Installing a 12 V battery monitor

Fantastic! Great information, and I do like a good graph... thanks! Thanks Art for both the info and confirming the link was actually the monitor you got. I wasn't sure if that hyperlink was generically added by the forum or not but good to know it has at least one preliminary recommendation.

2021 BMW I3S REX with 11,000 miles. Dealer told me today needs new tires. Doesn't sound right to me

Agreed on all points above; it's possible to wear out tires in 11k miles but that is also 'quick'. Tire life is not one of the i3's strong suits. Did the dealer give you a measurement on how "near the wear line" the tread is exactly? i3 tires don't come with a lot of tread to begin with...

2021 BMW I3S REX with 11,000 miles. Dealer told me today needs new tires. Doesn't sound right to me

This intrigues me from a technical standpoint. Does something like this actually exist at a price point that would be practical for a car dealer to implement this way with an adequate level of accuracy? This sure makes it sound questionable. It does seem like if you set up shop telling BMW...

    Installing a 12 V battery monitor

Thanks for sharing. I'm coming up on 4 years with my car and have never replaced the battery (the PO allegedly did in the year they owned it) so I'm pondering if something like this would be useful for me. A few questions if you don't mind/ know the answers: 1) what kind of monitor did you...

    rear screen wiper not going

I recently discovered the wiper won't work if the car thinks the trunk/hatch is open. There should be obvious signs if the car thinks the trunk is open but just figured I'd mention it.

original level 1 charge 'box' - better if used with 240VAC?

For what it's worth, I opened up the EVSE that came with my 2014, model # 7644239-03 and it does look to be functionally the same as that video. The circuit board model # matches (1007-0016 REV 2.7) and components and wiring appear very similar if not identical. One difference is the...

original level 1 charge 'box' - better if used with 240VAC?

Your photos do indeed indicate you have the TurboCord, part # 61442448670. That isn't the original EVSE the car came with but is probably a better EVSE to have. However, there also may be a recall on it: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2018/RCRIT-18V652-7122.pdf You're right in how it works...

    BMW i3 Items for Sale

To clarify: you mention IL, but the eBay auction lists New Jersey. Can you confirm where the tires are for shipping/ pickup purposes?

Got an i3, what cable do i need for pod point chargers without cable built in?

I'm more familiar with the US's setup where the EVSE has the cable attached but I think if you search for a 'mennekes cable' you'll be in the right ballpark.
