Pre-heating the battery, not just the cabin.

No. Climatize now will just pre heat or pre cool the cabin, using the battery, but not pre-conditioning the battery. The only way to precondition the battery is to have the car (preferably Level II) plugged in and to set a preset time (oddly it is called charging too, even if you are just going...

    Air Conditioning for Pets

Agree! Tesla's Dog Mode is actually a great idea. One of the few things I really like about Tesla :)

Keeping the i3, Bought an ID.4...

Awesome. Love that you took the time to compare the two. I like the ID.4, but I wish the USA would get the ID.3. I think VW did a very good job on both cars, but still for the i3 debuting in 2014...IMO, it looks more modern and unique that the ID cars, but I'm sure VW wanted something that...

    Smog Check in California?

As far as I know, the i3 is legally classified as an EV in California, where other states have it listed as a gasoline hybrid. I do not believe there is any smog check for the i3 in CA.

    Loads of Pictures.... incl Rex

I am on i3s # 2 and both frunks are not only waterproof, but as clean as the inside of the car! Perhaps your car needs to be looked at? New seals maybe? The frunk is where the occasional use cable is usually stored too. The Frunk must be waterproof.

    Loads of Pictures.... incl Rex

We grow food too, but I do love me a 1x a week Chinese take out and the Frunk is an all star. Our teenager loves McD's (yuck), but the frunk works again great for that too! Just recently I bought two huge rugs and when I got to my i3, I thought: Oh no, what have I done? Folded down the seats...

    Loads of Pictures.... incl Rex

I would NOT buy an EV without a frunk. It is amazing for picking up hot food! You can store it in the frunk while driving home and the cabin is not filled with strong Chinese food smells, greasy burgers and fries or any other take out that makes the inside of the car smell so bad. LOVE the...

    bmw i3 important question

I am 100% the same. I am 100% Teutonic myself. Anything above 20-24C and I think it is hot, LOL. San Diego is beautiful, but for So. California standards....very cool and tempered. I am in Calabasas, CA and our June-Oct is usually 33-45C!!! Last August we had several days of 49.5C!!! I...

    Shade for Moonroof

When I took delivery of both my 2019 and 2020 i3, the second day of ownership I had the moon roofs tinted with 3M ceramic tint, quite dark. It keeps almost all heat out and darkens the cabin a bit more. It is necessary IMO. I did 3M ceramic tint on the ENTIRE car. The i3 is like an infrared...

    bmw i3 important question

By the time I drove to work this morning, my car had 155 miles on pure electric and in EcoPro it showed 167 miles :) It seemed letting the battery deplete, run on REX, charge on Level II and leave it plugged in for at least 6 hours past complete charging for a battery balance did the trick...

    bmw i3 important question

Thanks Fordy and Art. I let my i3S "run out" of battery and the REX kick on yesterday afternoon. I plugged my car into my BMW Level II wall charger. Someone suggested this on the Facebook i3 Page. They said to charge on Level II, not the provided Level I and then allow the car to remain on...

    bmw i3 important question

Me too alohart. My 2020 i3S is my 4th EV, and I am the master at regen braking, feathering the go pedal, using EcoPro most of the time..... It is BIG mystery to me too!!!

Estimated full range is always LOW

YES, I meant to write "mile per kWh" rather than "kWh per mile" ;) I am almost certain I do not have a dragging disk brake. With tire psi I have them set to factory numbers. At first, I had them over inflated to do what you do...help protect the wheels from our awful CA streets, but the i3...

    bmw i3 important question

Wow, ok...Thanks alohart! 126 miles on electric is really what I am getting (it fluctuates between 120-130 miles for me). My REX range has never shown 74 miles, but it has shown 70 miles before. Usually my REX range is around 50-60 miles when the tank is full). Really appreciate the response...

    bmw i3 important question

Thanks. Yeah...i3s has wider tires, wider body work and slightly more hp and torque, but cannot imagine it would make that much of a difference in range.

Estimated full range is always LOW

Thanks. Many, many trips show that I got 2.5 to 2.9 kWh per mile :( I drive so slow, ALWAYS accelerate slowly and never go fast! Today I drove for 30 mins, speeds under 45mph and mostly flat roads. I was in EcoPro the entire trip and I got 2.8 kWh per mile. 5.2 mi/kWh!! WOW! I have never...

Estimated full range is always LOW

Thank you. If there was a bad cell....would there not be a warning for this, a message? I would be shocked if BMW did not program a warning if a cell failed or is failing. No?

    bmw i3 important question

I too cannot imagine I have had two "bad" i3s. I know the REX adds weight, the i3S has more hp and torque and the wheels are bigger and wider....but still I should be getting more than 120 miles on a full charge and my REX range should be showing 60-70 miles like it used to. When I took...
