Immediate charging even when off-peak charging is scheduled.

My i3 Rex did exactly the same thing last night with slightly different settings. Not the first time and not the last I'm sure. I think it just wasn't in the mood. For odd and unpredictable behaviors like this and others, I've nicknamed my i3 "Quirky". I will say that charging oddities like...

Retrofitting/fixing EU gas tank into US model?

Fantastic detective work! Does anyone know if this coding gets blown away never to be recoded again once the new software is installed with the improved KLE?

    Level 2 not delivering 6.6kwh‏

I have the original KLE and software update to limit charge current and have had the car for over 6 months. There's a Chargepoint system at work where I charge every day. I don't recall ever seeing charging much higher than about 5.4kw (with the Chargepoint App) even though I know my car will...

    Adjusting low-beam headlights

I can see my headlights doing some sort of adjustment, aiming downward and then rotating up to their final position every time the headlights turn on at night. I have the headlight switch in the automatic position if this has anything to do with it, and I see them do this every night when I...

    REX reliability

I knew someone was going to say that. ;) Up to now, yes. It was a tough choice (I really wanted the BEV) but with a 75 mile round trip commute to work at 75mph for almost 70 of those miles it was too close for comfort given all the unknowns. No 3 day test drive at that time to find out...

    REX reliability

I've had my REx over 4 months and 6000+ miles and have never used the REx but have gone through 3 maintenance cycles. Fortunately it appears to be working as expected but the worst time to test something is when you actually need it so you make a good point. But there's no guarantee that...

    Another tuner i3.

And those of us with the REX Could end up being double taxed. Not to mention other similar vehicles. How are they going to know how many miles were driven on gas versus electricity? Are they going to just trust us to report? I'd advise all REX owners to keep their eyes and ears open about...

    Fast forward/reverse of MP3 track

Thanks to all. I guess I didn't notice those buttons since they are so far away for us with left hand drive vehicles. I'd have like them closer (on the far left side) for easier reach. Do I sense a bit of Right Hand Drive Centrism here on the part of BMW? Neil

    Charging in the rain

Tom, is the charging port hardware the same on the i3 as with the ActiveE? The i3 port just seems a bit vulnerable to water infiltration. Anyway, I guess I'll find out when we get our first good rain here in California, but I might be waiting quite a while for that given the drought we're in.

    Fast forward/reverse of MP3 track

I have not been able to figure out how to fast forward or reverse through an MP3 track. Sometimes I want to go back 10 seconds or so and replay. Does anyone know how to do this? I'm really hoping it is possible. regards, Neil

    Charging in the rain

I imagine this has been well thought out by BMW (maybe not given the charging issues I'm having- but that's another topic) but I'm wondering if there would be any problem charging outdoors in the rain. There isn't any rain shield above the charging port and am concerned about water getting into...

    Delayed Charging mode.

Just a followup on this topic. Tonight I had another charging fault, similar to the one I posted from a few days ago. Didn't mess with it. Just waited for my low cost charging time and set it to immediate charging mode. Charging now for about an hour... Yes, when I unlocked the car I saw...

    Delayed Charging mode.

I can't say I've noticed it kicking on when I open the car door but I'll keep my eyes open for that. I was thinking about this low cost charging concept and I really don't understand why this should be so hard for BMW to accomplish. I've never had an issue with immediate charging before or...

    Delayed Charging mode.

That's interesting, I'm using a Clipper Creek level 2 unit as well, the HCS-40. I would however think it pretty unlikely that this is a problem with the EVSE as they are pretty simple devices and there is not enough information posted here to rule this out. Maybe others who have other charge...

    Delayed Charging mode.

I'm seeing delayed charging faults too. It had worked fine for the last week or so, but tonight I looked at the phone app and saw a notification- charging interrupted. Which is weird since the car wasn't charging. It was plugged in though. These are the events typical when I see a charging...

    i3 Software Update (USA)

Thanks to all for the tip on how to deactivate the ACC and use it as a DCC (dumb cruise control). It came in handy for today's commute home. David- the symptoms you describe are ones I've experienced as well. It sees ghosts. Were you able to get those issues addressed? I've assumed that was...

    i3 Software Update (USA)

davidrshelton- I'm curious to know what the issue is with your adaptive cruise control and whether it could be fixed. I have issues with mine as well. It has become basically useless for me on my commute home which is towards the west and apparently the sun wreaks havoc with it. At least...

Welcome to the BMW i3 Forum

Hello everyone, just joined today but I've had my i3 Rex since July 4th. Lots of useful information here and I thought I would join the conversation. I just passed 3000 miles as of today. I have a 75 mile round trip commute to work and went through a bit of agony deciding on the BEV or the...
