Vampire power use from the charger.

I do my main charging at work, and use the occasional use charger at home... occasionally. But the other day I took it off the wall to take on a trip, and it was warm. Not hot, but fairly warm when it had not been plugged into the car in weeks. It was plugged into the wall. So here it is...

Is it Ok to keep the rex gas tank empty?

Conventional wisdom back in the bad old days of ICE was if you are going to not use the car, park it full of gas. Less air in the tank to expand and contract, and a large amount of fuel to dilute any water, etc that makes it's way in. I parked a VW Rabbit in a storage unit with a trickle...

Will i3s wheels fit an i3 as the offsets seem to be the major difference

About the i3s fender flairs, to me they look decorative. It's a piece of plastic over the exiting fender. I don't think there is any additional room inside the fender for the wider tire. And as they are about 1 mm thick. i guess that provides a little more protection from throwing up rocks...

    New member, charging question.

Mick, This is a difficult question to answer without knowing how your house is set up, and what charger you intend to use. But essentially the fastest at home chargers use about he same amount of power as a full size electric clothing dryer, or an electric oven. Check the breaker or...

How many of you have this "problem"

I think this mean you accelerate awesomely!   Seriously the car's evaluation of me is not my primary concern. As some people are replacing rear tires at 10K miles, I think other may be accelerating awesomely as well.

Possible to access the traction battery for use with an inverter to power other items.?

In an emergency even the 12V sockets can be useful to charge a phone or similar. And a 12VDC to 110V AC inverter is easy to find. Is the 12V socket strictly powered by the 12V battery when not driving? How does the car make 12V?

    Preserving Paint in the sun

Car covers are great! Unless the car is outside. They will blow off, and rub your paint until they do. After they've been on the ground do you put them back on? With all that dirt?

    Solar panel on the roof

The reason electric cars don't have solar roofs is simple. It will on average reduce the range. The weight of the panel and necessary electronics will make the car heavier. The extra electricity you get will not extend the range farther than the weight will reduce the range. In theory, a...

    Preserving Paint in the sun

Any recommendations on the best wax or other products for preserving my paint? I have a Protonic Blue 2017, and my office provides free level 2 charging, but in a space exposed to the sun. I hate to admit this, but that paint sold me on the car. That and the no ding body panels. I...

When Electricity is more per mile than Gas

On a recent 375 mile road trip in my 2017 REx I was pleased to find a DC Fast Charging station just off the freeway. It was at a gas station and they had a small store as well. On the down side it was not close to anything else. I pulled in with only 11 miles remaining range. I connected...

i3: adding a Rex unit to a BEV

If I had a BEV and wanted a REX, I think the best thing to do would be to trade it. I do have a REX and one thing I'd likle to do is figure out how to run things in the house from it in an emergency. Both from the battery and from the REX.

    Blue Seat Belts ?!

When I went to pick up my 2017 in Blue with grey interior (and Blue accents), There was a 2018 there in red. With the cream/tan interior. And it had blue seat belts! And they looked hideous in that car. But they would look amazing in mine! How can I get those in my car? And not go broke...

Is there a way to keep the REx on to keep 75% SOC while parked/idle?

If the REx is running and the car is idle, it will be adding power to the battery much faster than the AC will use it. So even in hold mode it would shut off at 75%. You could of course start with a lower charge on the battery and let it build. It's not clear what you are doing here...

Sta-Bil Fuel Stabilizer in the Rex tank?

If you have a US model, you can run the REx if you code the car to have hold mode. Then under 75% battery and driving, you can run the Rex. European models can do this without programming. You can also run the REx at home by putting the car in Emissions Inspection mode. This will run the Rex...

Do the ECO Modes really extend the range?

Something I found recently on a long trip is that the cruise control seems to make the ECO modes less useful. In Eco Pro+ If I am at 50mph in cruise control and bump it up to 65mph, it goes there just fine no different than comfort. Do the same without and it is a fight. This may be why I...

steering Wheel became Hard to turn

I had this same thing happen last night. Left work, it was perfect, stopped at store. Left store, steering was heavy, notchy, did not seem to want to center itself. While going around a slow flat turn I could let go of the wheel and the car just continued in the turn. Lasted the whole 10...

Do the ECO Modes really extend the range?

"Flooring the pedal overrides the eco mode so why would that be more economical than driving more conservatively?" I don't think it would be and certainly never said that. I did that to see if the range estimate could be convinced Comfort was a better mode than ECO PRO+ and it can. But why...

The range of the i3 may be below par, but it's fit and finish is still the benchmark...

I have a hard time believing the REx was an afterthought. The REx as a plug-in Hybrid has the most all electric range of any plug-in Hybrid, by a factor of 2X. For me that's huge. Would I like 200-300 miles of electric range? Sure, but I would only use it 2-3 times a year.

Do the ECO Modes really extend the range?

OK so just for fun I drove the car around for a few minutes in Eco Pro+ with my fun pedal to the floor. Then switched to comfort and drove slow and conservative. Then, switching back and forth the car predicted 110 miles in Comfort and 96 in ECO pro! :D To me this confirms the modes are...
