And when you get tried of running you battery to the ground and having no control of your RX you can read my post on "Taking Control of your Range Extender! http://www.mybmwi3.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2141

here's some good reading from an owner on the great 6% soc start procedure that didn't work: Thinking about getting the Hold Charge Function. (not found on DVDinmotion site). We rarely use our REX feature (due to the wife's reluctance to drain the car down to only a couple of miles remaining)...

I already have an I8! You can sit here all day but you are the strange one - I haven't found one guy that is happy with a tank that holds less than 2 gallons - like I said, my lawn mower hold more fuel than my I3!

My exact thoughts - and the reason I went for the fix!!

Forget all that credit certificates and such, I could care less - I just want a RX I can start and a fuel tank that is bigger than my lawn mower!

What ever the reason - they are not thinking of the customers!

I'm with you 100% there partner, but as you know we didn't design the car - we can all complain the way we want it but we didn't spend the millions and years to develop this little gem. We don't need more batteries for longer range because then we have to use or battery power to carry them...

I looked into perhaps adding a hopper tank and found out quickly there is no room in that car other than the front compartment -in the event of a front end collision you don't want an unprotected tank anywhere in the front of this vehicle. I read a few posts that the USA cars have the same...

starting the range extender for emissions testing

This is why I installed the DVDinMotion Patch that allows me to manage my battery instead the processor - I think its great that the I3 starts the RX when the battery gets down to 6% for the driver who was unaware. But as we all know, getting the I3 to 6% SOC results in problems. For myself...

starting the range extender for emissions testing

Absolutely Not True the I3 RX engine and generator combination is a powerful high output generator. Since the I3 Range extender is large enough to supply power to run the car at 75 mph with accessories, it could easily charge the battery back up to 75% in just minutes - the I3 RX combination...

starting the range extender for emissions testing

BMW desperately needs to update the software for the I3 so when you start he engine at a reasonable SOC say anything below 50% - if the car is not demanding the current - the RX can charge the battery - what's the sense of having the engine running to merely hold the state of charge, why not...

Taking Control of your Range Extender - Mike Mas

They need to change that video the radio knob does not do anything - you just need to lock the car for 10 min and she's works!

Taking Control of your Range Extender - Mike Mas

Taking Control Of Your Range Extender - Mike Mas I know there’s a number of posts on the forum that deal with a software fix that remedies the problem with the I3 Range Extender however I wanted to just put it all in one thread for other users. As most of you already know, BMW made a terrible...

The test mode will charge the battery - that is why you have to be under 75% to begin the test and it only runs a certain period time to avoid over-charging. i.e.

    Hold charge function

Yeah sure - You and I know the routine of pumping the throttle and opening the hatch but how many poor saps driving I3's know about that - possible none!

Well I think everyone's comments are important wither you agree with them or not. Don't get me wrong - I love my I3 even in stock configuration, I just made it better by installing the DVDinMotion mod - now I can start the engine at will and save my battery for when I feel I want to use it...
