12 volt battery in later i3s--watch out

installing a plug-in voltmeter there is not a reliable method of determining the health or capacity of the 12v battery as they are not active after 15 minutes when the car is shut down. the best method I have found for monitoring the behavior of the 12v battery is to install a Bluetooth 12v...

"Let the Battery warm up" by turning on the car is not a thing.

    Winter Warmup Woes

Not the HV battery. Only the Cabin will be pre-conditioned if the car is not plugged in. I've tested this on my car when the HV battery was 5C, unplugged, and at Departure time the Cabin was warm but the HV battery was still 5C. Proper Pre-Conditioning of the HV Battery pack will bring the...

    Winter Warmup Woes

You can only "pre-condition" the HV battery if it is PLUGGED IN -and- a Departure Time is set 3hrs in advance of Departure Time. The Cabin Climatization (preconditioning) would still get done though, or you can manually select the FAN icon in the app but depending on how cold it is, you should...

    "25.0mph?"

No. Sounds you are accidentally tapping the button on the end of the turn signal stalk

    range predictor volatility

that is a good point. click the button on the end of the turn signal shaft until it displays the percentage of charge on your dash. Leave it this way and try to make a note of what the charge percentage is when you leave it overnight. When you come back, see if the percentage of charge has...

    range predictor volatility

Your 12v battery may be dying. When it does, it self-discharges and the main battery comes on to boost it to keep it “alive”. I monitored mine doing this over 2 weeks with no external signs or warnings.

    "25.0mph?"

I re-read your post again and you REALLY should read the Owner's Manual. The button at the end of the turn signal stalk toggles through several data options as I mentioned. ONE of those is the "average speed" that the vehicle has gone since the setting was last reset. You can reset it by making...

    "25.0mph?"

Sounds like you have enabled Cruise Control at 25mph. You need to turn it off. The other display is toggled by a button at the end of the Turn Signal Stalk. Press it repeatedly to toggle through the different info displays to get what you want.

BMW i3 Owners Shocked By $30,000 Battery Replacement, One Quoted $71,000!

One is the price they have to list when replacing under warranty. They left out the $0 due part The $71K one is the "We don't want to do this work" price.

My intro message. BMW i3S is brilliant, but needs big range Solid State battery

Let’s say you get 2000 “interested” owners Today. How many will still be “owners” in 3 years?

    Key FOB battery

Take it up with BMW then as that is what is suggested in the Owner's Manual. Prying off the back cover with the key is how I have replaced the batteries twice so far.

    Scheduled depart and climate questions.

If you set it for 6:50am, it will begin at 3:50am. The system uses the temperature of the BATTERY PACK to determine how long to "pre-condition" the HV Battery Pack. From cold, it will heat the pack until it reaches 50F/10C then it shuts off. The system STARTS to prep the Battery Pack EXACTLY...

    Failing 12V or Converter issue?

One way to determine the source of the problem would be to Open the Frunk, pull the HV disconnect and then remove the Negative Terminal from the 12v battery. Let it sit for a few hours and then check the voltage on the 12v battery terminals. You might find it easier to check voltage at the...

    Failing 12V or Converter issue?

This is a result of either a failing 12v battery or a short in the 12v system that is draining the 12v battery and causing the DC-DC converter to remain on constantly trying to keep the 12 battery alive. I've seen a few anecdotal reports of owners with a failed headlamp module or something...

using level 2 charger from Amazon

Your L2 device is not the "charger". The car controls the charging. The L2 device is just a cable with a switch in it. The car controls all aspects of the charging.

    Leaves in the Frunk

You could also get this insulated bag to fit in there for $20-ish. I think the XX-L is the correct size and if you search the reviews for "BMW" you will find a couple people mentioning that it works great in the BMW i3 Frunk. It does not stop the leaves but keeps your stuff from getting...
