How large a battery is needed to "jump start" (i.e. wake the computer)?

no reason for me to. You do what you want for your own comfort level.

How large a battery is needed to "jump start" (i.e. wake the computer)?

Please re-read the last paragraph in my comment. It not possible to "run down" the battery due to operator error on this car UNLESS the 12v battery is also faulty added: here is a graph from my Bluetooth Battery Monitor that shows my failing 12v battery self-discharging rapidly over 24hrs and...

How large a battery is needed to "jump start" (i.e. wake the computer)?

there is no specification for this as when the 12v battery is dead/dying and will not hold a charge, any 12v source you apply to the terminals is going to first go into the battery get turned into heat. A jumper pack must overcome that in order provide enough voltage and current to the car to...

    2015 i3 model: 12V starter battery flat

all the "updating" does is register with the car when the battery was replaced. Many people have replaced the 12v batteries over the years without "registering" the battery and no one has mentioned anything bad about it. Also- you could buy the BimmerLINK app and a compatible OBDII wifi...

    Trunk lock not working

The latch mechanism may have died and you just need to replace it. Here is a video on this but it covers what happens when it dies and you can't unlock the door. If it is not the actual mechanism it may be in the wiring. There is apparently a connection under the headliner just past the...

    2015 i3 model: 12V starter battery flat

The AA guy knows nothing about how the 12v battery works on this car. When it fails, it self-discharges over time faster than the car can keep up with keeping it charged. "Jumping" the battery provides proper voltage to the terminals so the rest of the car can wake up and operate. As long...

    2015 i3 model: 12V starter battery flat

Easiest place to buy it would be a BMW Dealer The battery is sort of specific to the car but there are others that will "fit". It is a 20ah AGM battery. Similar batteries are labeled "PowerSports" batteries but there are different sizes.

2015 REx dead and not charging

When the 12v battery is in good condition, the car's DC-DC converter converts High Voltage from the main battery to 14.8v DC to keep the 12v battery charged. The normal voltage of the 12v battery is about 12.9 volts when it is just resting. If the 12v battery self-discharges over time, the...

    94ah range

My 2017 94ah has a displayed "range" of 120 miles in warm weather. That is about 193Km. Sometimes when fully charged it will show up to 150miles which would be 241km. But that drops after I start actually driving it. This is in "Comfort" mode. The range will be displayed as higher if you...

Seek Maintenance Advice for 2016 BMW i3 Rex (60k miles, Low Use)

Alarm going off while car is parked and no one around is either the 12v battery failing or you have something plugged into the OBDII port (like a tracker for insurance). There is also an interior motion sensor alarm that could be triggered if you leave a pet in the car. If this is triggering a...

12 volt battery in later i3s--watch out

You say your 2014 is still on the OEM original 12v battery. If true, you are on borrowed time. You are an outlier. Some batteries fail at 2 years. Most seem to fail at 3-4 years. A few others fail at 6-7 years. Is the risk worth it? Only you can make that call.

12 volt battery in later i3s--watch out

Check the PERCENTAGE OF CHARGE in the evening by tapping the button on the turn signal until it appears on the dash. Then come back the next morning and see if that number has changed at all. If it HAS, then you most likely have a dying 12v battery. That's a better indicator than the Range...
