One year owner and love it!

Yes, "orphans" can make for great deals. 👍 Nice find!

    Possible new rider with questions

PlugShare is a good umbrella app that covers chargers on the different charging networks. By looking at individual charger details you can find out the price. Most newer ones charge by kWhr (typical to get 4 miles per kWhr), but some usually slower chargers charge by the time you are charging...

    Whining noise

Does it vary in loudness or pitch with the speed of the car? Can you have a passenger sit on either side of back seat to try to figure out exactly where it's coming from? Or if you drive past someone, can they hear it and where it's coming from?

    Home Charger 7.4kw on 2021 i3

Perhaps the i3 setting that instructs it how quickly to charge with various charger types needs to be changed? BMW USA video about this setting:

    12 v battery change

Wow, didn't appreciate quite how tight the clearances are to get at the battery. Appreciate the tiny details in the linked video.

2020 i3 60k miles, First service visit cost estimate around $3,000, need advice please

Just to clarify, both the Energizer and Deka OEM i3 batteries are AGM types rather than gel or traditional wet cells. The AGMs should not vent at all under normal conditions, but do have emergency vent ports in case something bad happens. I believe the vent tubing in the i3 is just there for...

Can you post more info on the extended warranty and tire/key fob issues you had? My used 2020 i3 has basic warranty expiring in January.

2020 i3 60k miles, First service visit cost estimate around $3,000, need advice please

This YouTube video may be what I remembered: at 5:14 into video (charge port door) On second thought it may be the solenoid that locks the charging connector, or even a symptom of a failing 12V battery! From Reddit i3: “ Ditto, 12v battery first... when it begins to give up, it causes MANY...

It sounds like they just used their standard ICE car automatic boilerplate “ explanations”. Certainly sloppy and disappointing for a premium brand.

    ApplePlay

If you search for CarPlay install on i3 you’ll find plenty of aftermarket options. Some (maybe all?) involve installing a new electronics unit in the spot under the rear seat.

Just a heads up on the battery and ac issues: 12V battery on i3 when it starts failing often throws many mysterious faults in all kinds of systems. When it fails the car totally stops functioning even if the HV battery has charge, so would likely have to be towed. That’s why I had my...

2020 i3 60k miles, First service visit cost estimate around $3,000, need advice please

Re: brake fluid and inspection. This just sounds like scheduled maintenance not yet done. Brake fluid is scheduled for replacement every two years and car “inspection” every 4 years iirc.

2020 i3 60k miles, First service visit cost estimate around $3,000, need advice please

Re: charging port. The description sounds to me like an issue with a locking solenoid to either allow the flap to be opened or to secure the connector when attached. There have been posts on similar issues where re-calibration or minor adjustments fixed the issue. Perhaps check out Wisely...

Replacing the 12V battery is definitely a good idea given age of car. However, even my expensive Bay Area dealer charges “only” $550 installed. There’s registering with the ECU needed, but as others have said if you have time to have an exact replacement shipped to you you can install it...

    Start/Stop button slowly flashes orange

Iirc, when the battery gets fully charged, the charging system will recalibrate (?) one of the battery pack’s cells, dealing with minor changes to its health so as to keep the overall pack balanced. Otherwise, a single cell behaving differently enough from the others can cause charge/discharge...

Latest software update for 2019 i3 BEV

There are some online operations that can supposedly update your i-level at perhaps a somewhat cheaper price than the dealer. Have you tried talking with the dealer about the actual heating issue and seeing what they offer?

I want to buy The Owners manual package that would have come with my 2021 i3S

When I looked for online BMW dealership parts operations, I somehow ended up with one or two that had the paper manuals listed, maybe $60 (?!). I'm pretty sure there is at least a main manual and a separate one for the infotainment system. My used i3 came with a severely water-damaged manual in...

3 months newbie, used 2020 base i3 BEV

I got a good deal a few months ago on a 2020 i3 base mega world, 36k miles, with 6 months of basic warranty left. I’m very glad to have found this forum! Of course, ownership brings many small practical issues. Among my current ones: Is there an SF Bay Area i3 owner’s group somewhere to get...
