    Keith here from Scottsdale AZ

Same here - always bills to pay and not enough cash to pay them.

    hello

As I understand it, you only need motion detection for the keyless entry option. If you don't have that, the key doesn't need to use it. IIRC, BMW chose to keep the remote/keyless entry part of the key separate from the immobiliser part, and tests done recently (sorry, can't find the article...

    Delete Rex??

I guess the obvious observation is that an engine running (in effect) a generator doesn't look anything like a battery in electrical terms. So you would need to create an interface that would emulate the electrical characteristics of an engine/generator without one being present. That doesn't...

Any experience with updating the GPS maps?

I'm not making any serious accusations by saying that it's trivially easy to find pirated software on Ebay. Do you really believe that BMW sells map updates on Ebay? If not, where does the legitimacy of those map updates come from? It seems (to me) very very unlikely that you would ever buy a...

    Why BMW Dealers so greedy?

Sorry to add an unwanted dose of realism here, but this is not a buying exercise for them. They don't (sorry to have to say it) really want your cars. They want to sell you two new cars. It's a very well-known selling tactic.

Any experience with updating the GPS maps?

I don't think the people that run this forum could or should allow that, in the same way that they can't allow links to warez (illegally copied software). In the end, this is just someone making money by selling something that they don't own. The people who put in the work to update the maps get...

You need to have the diagnostic codes read to get further clues. Otherwise you will just be replacing parts at random...

My intro message. BMW i3S is brilliant, but needs big range Solid State battery

Of course, nobody outside BMW knows in detail the profitability of the i3 to the company, but there seems to be plenty of evidence that it simply wasn't profitable for them. You have to bear in mind that the car (and the expensive construction technique used) was conceived around 15 years ago...

Bmw i3 2019 120Ah Lodge imperial blue in France

Can you not get one from a BMW dealer? Or is it very expensive to do that?

    Rex & UK Road Tax

At the moment there is no practical way for them to charge VED (UK Road Tax) on the basis of how many gallons of petrol you actually use, so all they can do is to set the VED with an assumption about what proportion of your motive power comes from grid electricity and how much from petrol. It's...

    12v battery monitor

At the fuse panel. IIRC I put a bolt in the alloy frame for the fuse panel to get a ground connection.

Coding Anti-Dazzle and Variable Light Distribution

Do any of these instances involve cars with rear lighting that extends right across the width of the car? I ask, because there is some evidence (in the UK) that the KAFAS system on the i3 doesn't cope too well with that type of vehicle.

Coding Anti-Dazzle and Variable Light Distribution

There are fairly widespread reports of factory alignment being poor. Mine's a 2021 car with under 14k miles - the driver's side dipped (low) beam alignment is too high. I reported it as a warranty issue, and BMW refused to even look at it, unless I paid. It's not long until mine is due for a...

    Forward Cooling Fan Replacement

Just a generic observation - not specifically about i3's: Modern cars typically have a PWM controller which allows the engine management system to control the speed of the fan. It may be that this has failed? Is it fair to assume that you have a good chassis ground at the connector?

Someone else searching for an 2021 i3 S fully loaded with the all the options that were offered BMW as a part of “ their last year’ program.

That seems to be a rather odd translation of the (originally German) options list. On my car (European spec) it seems to be translated as S570 Reinforced power supply Initially I thought it was related to the charging circuitry but... it seems not! An option with this name and code can be...

2014 i3 REX with 11.7 Batt Kappa Max

I've never had to deal with this myself, but having read about it a bit, one the BMW "catches" is that the first stage in the process of the formal BMW test is to update the car's software/firmware. This generally seems to have the effect of improving the battery stats, as seen by Kappa Max...

Someone else searching for an 2021 i3 S fully loaded with the all the options that were offered BMW as a part of “ their last year’ program.

I'll take a guess that their legal advisors have warned them that if they say "Apple CarPlay installed" then someone will take them to court because you can't just get in the car and use the facility. The owner has to provide something (the iPhone, obviously) for it to work. Hence the word...

Someone else searching for an 2021 i3 S fully loaded with the all the options that were offered BMW as a part of “ their last year’ program.

For a simple explanation of what each (Mega, Giga and Tera) means, the i3 Wiki is actually quite good. But in my experience it doesn't really help a huge amount to know the definitions of each of the interior package names, because (at least in the UK) secondhand sellers don't tend to use them...

    Delayed charging Debacle

I wonder if this is something that has changed during the course of production? I'm certain that mine does not stay on when the car is unlocked, because my car is always unlocked when charging (kept in a garage). I can believe that they might have changed the behaviour after feedback from...
