2020 i3 60k miles, First service visit cost estimate around $3,000, need advice please

No - they are in effect the same system. There's a good diagram in BMW's North American i3 Training Manual which shows how it all fits together.

2020 i3 60k miles, First service visit cost estimate around $3,000, need advice please

As experts and representatives of the company that manufactured your car, is it too much to expect that they understand how it works? There is no alternator on an i3, and the 12V battery is not used for engine cranking (there is no starter motor on an i3 REX). It seems that the 12V battery is...

Latest software update for 2019 i3 BEV

You're right - OTA software updates are not supported on the i3. Data updates (e.g. map data updates) are supported, though in my experience that feature doesn't work well - I waited for more the 6 months for my last OTA map update to complete. I gave up in the end and downloaded the new map...

    Start/Stop button slowly flashes orange

Did you charge the new battery before fitting it? They are typically part-discharged when supplied new, and I've had quite a few that are more than half-discharged on arrival (e.g. with a resting voltage of ~12.3V) so it would probably have taken a while for the car the get it fully charged up...

Latest software update for 2019 i3 BEV

I doubt a software update will fix your heating problem - that's a pretty basic function, and I don't recall it being referred to as a common software-related issue. If you normally run in Eco Pro mode, the cabin heating does seem to be scaled back a bit to conserve power. Otherwise the cabin...

    Boot liners - Full coverage

Rhino make one that is custom-made for the i3 - not padded, but the material is pretty thick.

How to leave the battery while going in hollidays

There is both a top and bottom buffer built-into the i3's battery pack - so when it shows as 100% it is not quite fully charged, and when it shows 0% it is not fully depleted. However, the bottom buffer is not a "reserve" as such. It is there to ensure that the cells themselves never go below...

    Steering not self centering

Apologies if you have already checked this and eliminated it, but this sounds to me like wheels out of alignment at the front.

How to leave the battery while going in hollidays

For two weeks, it would be better to leave it at (say) 60% charged, than at 100%. My car is often left for up to 2 weeks and I never see more than 1 or 2% loss in HV battery in that time. As long as the 12V battery is in good shape, it will be fine. If you have doubts about the 12V battery (e.g...

Question on coding Rex to turn on below 75% battery level.

If you read this thread, it explains what HSOC is: https://www.mybmwi3.com/threads/question-on-coding-rex-to-turn-on-below-75-battery-level.18971/

    2014 i3 12V Battery charge

And yes, all the time that the car is on charge, the 12V battery should be charged too [edit: just realised that EvanstoneI3 has already said this]. Much of the car "stays awake" during charging so, for example, the internal 12V outlets inside the car stay powered-on all the time that charging...

    charging ettiquette

If he's charging, he has a right to be there. Perhaps he's gone off to work, or maybe he's partway through a long journey and needs a full battery to get to his destination? If a car is sitting there at near fully charged then there might be a case to send a polite message saying that you have...

Second live with double range for the i3 60Ah?

And I'm guilty too - the last 3 cars I sold were kept by me for 8, 10 and 25 years respectively (the last one was 60 years old when I sold it!), and I plan to keep the i3 for 10 years. But most of the car-buying population is not like that. A substantial proportion of car buyers in the UK still...

Second live with double range for the i3 60Ah?

That's a huge difference, compared to the UK. If I look on Autotrader's UK site, there are roughly a dozen 5 years old (or younger) 120Ah i3 under £15k. Here's an example, chosen at random: 2019 120Ah i3 with 24kmiles - £12,799. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202409254452873/ So...

Second live with double range for the i3 60Ah?

That's a shame - IIRC the Munro teardown went as far as removing and displaying modules from a pack, but did not show any dismantling at the module level. But on the other hand, if the main concern is simply general degradation across the whole pack, this probably won't be an issue until the...

Second live with double range for the i3 60Ah?

The cost of the car when new is irrelevant - I think that's called the "sunk cost fallacy", isn't it? When comparing which course of action makes most sense, it's the current value of the car that matters. Instead of paying 13.6 kEuro for a battery "upgrade", the owner might just as well pay...

Second live with double range for the i3 60Ah?

Sounds possible, though of course the conventional way would be kEuro. If that's the price in Euros (i.e. 13.6 thousand Euros) I can't see how they will ever sell any upgrades, as that's the entire value of a decent 5-year-old 120Ah i3 on the secondhand market. It makes no sense to upgrade your...

I'm not familiar with European terms like that - what does TEuro mean?

    I3 acceleration question

One of the things that makes the car (and any EV for that matter) so dangerous for points on your licence is that there is so little fuss and noise when accelerating hard. Most of us will come from "performance" ICE vehicles where you can accelerate hard but it involves a lot of noise and gear...

    I3 acceleration question

With a few rather crude assumptions (e.g. that acceleration will be linear, which it won't), it seems likely that it should easily be possible. According to my maths, an i3S BEV should (in theory) make it to 73kph in around 52m. A non-S with REX for example would stretch that out to approx. 60m...
