    Octopus Intelligient & Location

The only info I have is as follows (plus the fact that the incident has now been reported as fixed): Incident updated BMW/MINI: Degraded performance when linking vehicles Monitoring Started October 30, 2024 12:06 PM UTC Fixes have been implemented for all flows and we are monitoring the...

    Octopus Intelligient & Location

Mine has starting doing the same in the last few days - according to a post on one of the UK-based i3 groups, BMW made a change to something on 30th October and it stopped IOG from working correctly. Unfortunately I don't know the source of their info, nor whether it has been fixed!

    check engine light

As I recall (I have the BEV version, without REX) it's quite a complicated system. The petrol tank is pressurised all of the time other than when it is being filled, and the system has to depressurise before you can open the cap. If the system detects that the tank is losing pressure, it will...

How to leave the battery while going in hollidays

If you're using a CTEK charger, I would think that the probability of causing any damage to other electronic components is very low. They have a very good reputation. I probably wouldn't risk it with a cheap Chinese unheard of brand.

Parts For Sale 2x Key FOBs for sale (left from my totaled 2018 BMW i3)

On some cars, it really is that easy, apparently. A simple relay process to makes the car and key detect that they are close together when they are not. On some cars - such as some of the recent Kia and Hyundai models, there are other weaknesses. Apparently these relate to the strength of...

    new owner, spare key

No real options - it's dealer only, as far I'm aware. Definitely something to take into account when buying an i3, if you have to have a second key, as the cost is significant.

Parts For Sale 2x Key FOBs for sale (left from my totaled 2018 BMW i3)

But apparently motion-sensing was only added later in production. Some time in 2019? Not a feature that's present on my car, and I don't regret that. I've never found it too taxing to press a button on the remote!

Parts For Sale 2x Key FOBs for sale (left from my totaled 2018 BMW i3)

As I understand it (and as discussed on other i3-specific forums) it is not. If you don't have Comfort Access, the key only transmits when you press a button. Otherwise it's silent, and there is nothing to "relay" to the car. And, as said - it doesn't seem at all popular car with thieves. That...

BMW i3 Charge Port Insulation Cap Replacement?

I've had a quick look at one of the online parts catalogues (Realoem) and nothing of that description shows up, so it seems likely that BMW simply don't sell it as a separate part. Depending on where you are in the world, it may be worth speaking to one of the specialist companies such as...

Replaced my 12v battery, now showing "drive-train" fault detected

As far as I'm aware, BimmerCode is not designed to allow you to clear fault codes. Apparently you need BimmerLink for that.

    Abnormal noise motor?

To be honest, it's difficult to know for sure. Bear in mind that BMW sold a quarter of a million i3s, so there are a lot of them out there. But I don't think BMW do themselves any favours with some of their repair pricing policies. It means that even a relatively small number of "huge repair...

Parts For Sale 2x Key FOBs for sale (left from my totaled 2018 BMW i3)

In fairness, some people do give their key fobs a really hard time, and I'm pretty sure that the plastics used on an original key are better than those used in the cheap Chinese-made "key fob case and blade" replacements you can buy on Ebay. You could probably use parts from these to refresh...

    Abnormal noise motor?

Probably a wise move, though if you buy a faulty Tesla, bear in mind that they are not reputed to be cheap to fix either! If you liked everything else about the i3, it might be worth returning the one you have and looking around to see if there are any other i3s available in your area?

    Abnormal noise motor?

Probably the most important advice is: never, ever buy an i3 that's making strange noises - because there's a fair chance that it will be very expensive to fix properly. It's never easy to diagnose problems by sound alone, but that sounds to me like excessive gearbox wear. It won't be cheap to...

    Solar trickle charge

Note also that - according to BMW's documentation - the first stage of this recovery process will show no indication that anything is happening. You won't get any LED lighting at the charge port, nor any display on the dash - so you really just have to plug it in and come back later to see if it...

Second Edition of free Electric Vehicles and i3 book by David J. Bricknell

As I recall, the "runout" special edition was the Unique Forever edition, which was planned to be made in total numbers of 2000 units, but for reasons I can't recall didn't quite get to 2000. Production started in Nov 2021 and it was available in Europe only, I think - but was available in RHD...

low h scraping sound when braking

And if you don't find worn-out pads or rusty disks, check between the alloy back shield and the disk - it's possible for small stones to get trapped between the two, and it makes an annoying noise.

Hello every one! I’m glad to share BMW i3 repair techniques

Please - feel free to share. It's rare for people in your position to be willing to make information freely available. Most companies want to hide it rather than to share it!

    Battery discharging whilst parked

It could be another failing battery, but I have seen the same message in my car after leaving it for 10 days while on holiday. The HV battery was ~60% at the time and may have dropped 1% during the 10 days. My car is only just over 3 years old. So I'm hoping that it's not unusual to see this if...

New 12V battery died twice in 3 months

When and how are you measuring these voltages? If this is the voltage when the car is powered-on, it is way too low. When the car's DC-DC converter is running, the voltage at the 12V battery should be above 14V.
