Is it known whether a 2018+ motor is a bolt-in replacement, or are there plug differences or coding changes needed? are the motors the same between REX and BEV just with different mounts or does the application need to match?

It is, but in a car with efi it’ll absolutely still have the sensors, and I’m sure the emissions control equipment too.

Leaded fuel will hurt catalytic converters and oxygen sensors, so I wouldn’t suggest that for the rex engine…

I watched coolant and oil temps and saw no issues running it for 4 hours (with extra fuel) at 75 mph. Charge holds with Rex at 4500-5100rpm. Only two trip like that so far, 2 more to com 4th of July weeekend.

I worked through mine on Saturday and found one blown fuse for the two in the cockpit, and the one in the dash was unplugged behind the dash. Only the one in the boot was working initially. Very strange indeed. I didn’t ask previous owner about any history on those.

Seems an unquestionably safe assumption that anyone considering this is using an OE, DOT certified tank from... something, whose dimensions are just perfect for the available space.
