Miss-Fire Codes when Rex Shutting Down mid-trip...

sorry, been away, thats a wiring harness, just pry off the spring clips holding it to the cover and move it aside. If you have not already done so.. unless you mean the CCV line, in which case its the same as the others, i think i used a trim removal tool to help break the seal and then pop it...

Miss-Fire Codes when Rex Shutting Down mid-trip...

There are 6 bolts, 5 on the cam cover, one in the middle is easy to miss as its the stud that holds the wiring for the coils. there is also the earth strap at the top under the injector rail. they al need to be removed before it can come off

Miss-Fire Codes when Rex Shutting Down mid-trip...

If you can change the plugs its a small step to pop the cam cover and check the timing. the cam geras and reluctor are press fit. I put an image up to check the reluctor, the gears can be checked vs their own reference marks

Misfires, combustion quality low, replaced many parts, many tests

I keep banging on about this, simple to check and i suspect common https://www.mybmwi3.com/threads/does-anyone-have-any-pictures-of-the-cam-positions-relative-to-the-camshaft-reluctor-ring-miss-fire-cam-position-error.19115/#post-83694

Do you get random misfire codes ?

Hello, new i3 owner with broken Rex

have a look here, i had the same issue https://www.mybmwi3.com/threads/does-anyone-have-any-pictures-of-the-cam-positions-relative-to-the-camshaft-reluctor-ring-miss-fire-cam-position-error.19115/

Does anyone have any pictures of the cam positions relative to the camshaft reluctor ring? (Miss fire / Cam position error)

No worries, it takes a moderate amount of force, you need to consider the heat expansion, so yes they may be fairly well press fit at room temp, but at operating temp, not so much. Easy to see if its ok (you only need the inlet) either compare it to this image. Or post a picture in the same...

Does anyone have any pictures of the cam positions relative to the camshaft reluctor ring? (Miss fire / Cam position error)

You dont need to change the crank sensor unless its failed, if you getting an missfire code this generally means its not failed as it would normally show open circuit. You dont need to change the camshafts or the engine, you just need to set the reluctor ring to the correct position relative...

Instructions to replace a REx yourself?

Absolutely, i did it just be removing the intake manifold and rocker cover, which is 20 minutes

Instructions to replace a REx yourself?

The engines dont really do much work, steady state low load, mine was over 90k, probably the cleanest internals i have seen. I would certainly not replace the engine unless i confirmed a fault with the existing unit. the location of the hole is unimportant, all its doing is stopping the...

Instructions to replace a REx yourself?

Yes those are exactly the faults i would associate with a slipped reluctor ring. I don't actually believe that the cains on these stretch appreciably in this use case. I say that as a man with a new timing chain in a draw with nothing to do with it. You need to check all the reference marks...

Instructions to replace a REx yourself?

Right, this is likely a load of wallop. i assume your getting a random miss-fire which is being diagnosed as a stretched timing chain. If you remove the cam cover and post a clear picture of the timing wheel on the end of the inlet cam relative to the cam lobe i can tell you if its timing or...

What is actually wrong with the Rex you have? have you got a clear faut

Does anyone have any pictures of the cam positions relative to the camshaft reluctor ring? (Miss fire / Cam position error)

Bit confused by the question, you can see how it was resolved in the first few posts? You need to set the reluctor ring back into the correct position. 6.24mm from the bottom of the mid size section relative the the peak of the cam lobe. (See the picture with the alignment) You then need to...

Does anyone have any pictures of the cam positions relative to the camshaft reluctor ring? (Miss fire / Cam position error)

This is a bit circular, if you look at the pictures, that is broadly what I have done. My point was about the comment re welding, which I believe would require removal of the shaft to get an adequate weld
